MG MG Y Type - YB Window Trim

On refurbishing (repairing really) my window surrounds I have found on the back of them, in pencil, the number "7473" and "body number 6960". I assume that these are generic numbers for the YB body type and the job number or the like, from the firm which manufactured the wood mouldings. I attach examples of this. I also found the letters "NH" in pencil and wonder if this is the initials of the person who made them and, stamped on another piece, the date "13 April 53 which I assume is the date of the manufacture of the piece. I cannot find these numbers in the factory parts list but then again I find this list rather confusing. Has anyone else noticed this?

Ian - have a look in the archives under "interior trim workers' marks" - the same thing interested me when I refurbished my door trims; even the rear of the dash wood had markings from back in the day. I carefully protected the markings, as I love the history. Keep up the good work!

Thanks John but I find the search or archuve functions on this site rather less than useful. Apologies to whoever set it up but I find it invariably throws up answers that are so large that I can't find what I am looking for or that are so obscure as to puzzle me as to why they were returned in the first pkace. Often they simpy return anything at all! Needles to say I couldn't find anything about the door trim, even using the phrase you so kindky supplied. Thanks anyway.

Ian, I just went to archives, typed in "interior", and up comes the alphabetical (after the numbers, admittedly) listing; scroll down to the "i" section, and there it is. Hope it's of interest. John.

Sounds like operator error Ian

Are you logged in? Then click on Search, type in interior trim worker's marks click the radio button for this phrase, then on the drop down box select All MG Y-type archived threads .

J P Hall got the ' after the s in his note above and it should have been before it.

Thanks John and Paul. I found it at last but the problem was not exactly the one you pointed out. It was down to more than one thing but especially John's comment that he went to the "archive". You see I had been using "search". The difference between the two is incomprehensible to my small brain, even taking into account the fact that I was not even aware that there was an archive function as I never looked beyond the search function. I stand by my comment though that the search function throws up too much information to be easily usable.

Regards Ian.
