Putting it together the critical part is to be sure the doors are properly aligned, the most difficult part. The LHS door fitted very well easily with appropriate space against the front jamb and next to the lower sill incline.
The RHS door , probably due to greater lifetime use not so easily fitting but now close.
If anyone has advice about how to influence minor movements of the door to fit properly. Shims etc have been tried under the door hinge but has anyone had experience placing applying force to effect a better closure.
Trying to match the body and surrounding dashboard outline .
I know there is advice in the workshop manual for YA and YB , but the tourer ?
I have seen the use of turnbuckles and ss wire from upper to lower ,but more I believe to twist the front base of the door inwards.

Looking good, Clive. Where in Victoria? - motoring slowly back to Qld with YA behind. Currently at Smythesdale, then Geelong, then wherever ...
Yours,
John.

Clive, paint job looks good. Something I need to do with my YT.
I have used ss wire and turnbuckles to limited effect in getting the front bottom edge of doors to fit the body line. I am thinking of using the old tried method of holding the top front of the door and putting my body pressure against the lower corner to give the door more curvature.

Clive, To fit the door there are a few ways to get this done. If you search the TD forums this has been discussed many times and many solutions have been suggested.

I have used shims under the hinge, and brute force and wedges to twist the door to bring into final alignment. Did you fit the doors before painting?
CR Tyrell

Hi JP
I am in Mont Albert VIC
I am happy to show you the car etc as you wind your way back north, but will be away this W/E, let me know when passing through.
Pic shows RHS fitting well especially at the upper reaches , but still reps minor adjustment.
My major helper Christopher C (has a clipper Blue YT also) and I plan together the operations to achieve best result. Eventually we hope to place side by side bothBlue YT s for a 77th year celebration.
And then a little reminiscing about the one I used to own back in 72, 1972.
Yep , I sold it for an MGB , !!!!
Having another go.But that door fitted well.

To answer TR , we had earlier contact re that 2nd car you had, maybe it was better than the current blue one. anyway .
We painted all the panels etc , deciding we needed to get somewhere rather than just preparing all the metal repairs and have a hulk on trolley. It then felt some progress has been made, probably not the way most would progress, but “Vee hav our vays”. Once it all back together we will go over again and touch up where required. All underneath has been seam sealed painted and even clear coated, why because was easy at the time.
I acquired all the sill and rear arch well from NTG and can’t remember how much all the pat cost , but the car came with some half prepared sills manufactured by a somebody.
I am grateful to TSlattery for tipping me into this one, it has given me much work and enjoyment. One day I will be a reasonable welder, I hope.?

Lovely work Clive, well done.
Makes me feel guilty about our YT, needs a facelift. Enjoying following your progress.
Our much used YT is starting to look like Father Jack Hackett, if anyone wants to Google that reference ;-).

Hi Clive I found the door adjustment changed as I was working on the car ..Body on and off the chassis was a bit different plus the position of the axle stands to sitting on its wheels. My door mounts on the body needed repairing and brass shims installed. Inside the doors I have cross braces in both directions to make it more ridged.. They are made with 6 mm rod with a turn buckle in the centre. Before painting the body and the top of the door lines where adjusted ( only a bit of lead removed from the body to line it up..BOB WOOD YT4319

Hi Rob
Nice to hear from you. Was wondering how you have proceeded with the power brakes and diff alteration. Did you manage to construct a sub RHS front guard roof for the power brake cylinder.
And or did you change to TLS front brakes .
Always interested in your little red beauty.

Bob Wood
Am hoping the body sitting on the spare chassis and off the original chassis is well mated, as to yours on the stands and then on the chassis.
Are you colouring yours Klipper Blue as well ?
Two stays in the doors sounds good . Will sound even better with Rockwool insert as well or adhesive sound deadener.
Where did you place the brass shims. Pic please .

Hi Clive, The colour clipper blue varies depending on which paint company is making it. The colour number on the web site was nothing like clipper blue... I put the shims to the rear of the hinge so it is not seen .Sorry but my car is up the coast at the moment so I have not got a photo BOB

Hi Clive,

Yes, added a power booster but found enough space in the engine bay for it. LHS of the battery box, above the Jackall pump. Made a big difference, haven't felt the need for the TLS step at this stage.

Diff is still as before, a hybrid Y/Midget assembly with a 4.22 CWP set. I have the new machined alloy heat treated half shafts in now so the rear axle is strong. Hence our confidence at motorkhanas & khanacross.

Hope to see you on the road soon...

Regards,
Rob

Has anyone put a brake booster/ servo in the boot of a y type
Bob Wood

Not me - but a friend here had one in the boot of his HR Holden Targa racer and it worked fine.

Thank you Clive - sorry, the ducks lined up wrong and we're now up in the north of Vic. I'll try again on our next southern trip. Funny, David at the Healey Factory said he's in Mont Albert too. Keep up the good work. John.

Just found out there is another Clipper Blue YT under reconstruction, near Coffs Harbour, NSW.

Thanks for the great pics of your car, and good luck with the next bit! My suggestion about door fit would only be that until the engine and transmission are in the car, and the wheels and suspension are bearing the weight of everything they're supposed to carry, don't try to adjust the doors too closely. The YT's structures, including the chassis, are surprisingly bendy. I've personally witnessed what happened when the rebuilder who did the body on my Y put the engine back in a Triumph TR6 - the doors jammed shut. Disappointment all round... engine out again, reset panels, hold breath... as I say, good luck and keep us posted!

Hello Rob

Can you please let me have (technical) details of your hybrid Y/Midget diff assembly with its 4.22 CWP?

Thank you & greetings from Switzerland
Anton Piller, YT 4220

Anton Piller

Dear YT ers
We are up to the sills and really kicking goals now. We didn’t use the NTG sill bits , but managed to adapt some homemade sills which were pretty good copies. They required some hammer work with many on and offs , check check check. M8 nuts welded to the inner of sill.
Inner of sill painted with gal and then loaded with fish oil, just to last another 75 years.
Minor small pieces to fill in gaps front and rear of sills and the dastardly separation cut now closed up .
The drivers door seems it will fit and close , line up well.
The welding of the rookie has improved with practice, and even “Bad Chad “
might give it a pass. “Fitz’s Fabrication” also has worthy advice.
More paint required and final pic to come in next months.
