MG MG Y Type - YT Rear Mirror Stems remanufactured
One of the rarest pieces confronting restorers of YTs is the total lack of proper DESMO stems to hold the rear view mirror (which is the same as a TD and easily avaiable but the TD mounts on the scuttle) to the top rail of the windscreen. If you want one of these please either add a note to this thread or email me as I am thinking of having a short run of them made. Paul

Paul, if you move further on this remanufacturing line I think it would be worth contacting the Aussie parts suppliers as one or more may order a few as there are more YTs on this continent than any other. Let me know if you need their contact details. All the best, Rob

Rob Certainly we would welcome you emailing me their details off line and I will follow up with them too. Thank you for your suggestion. Equally we are open to individuals who might want to take advantage of this - this is to be a one off exercise and once the run is sold that will be it ... until someone else wants to do some. When that will be is anyone's guess. Paul

I'm curious about the YT mirrors - I have the screen mounted Desmo mirror but I wonder what provision was made for when you lay the windscreen down? My YT has a centre hole on the top of the scuttle (? right word) across the top of the dash which might be for an alternate mirror for 'screen down' travelling.

David, My guess is if you need a rear view mirror, you shouldnt put the screen down! Guess if you need to do it though and want a mirror then you would have to do what the T Types do and mount one on the scuttle. Paul

David / Paul With regards to rear view mirrors - I've overcome the problem of driving with the windscreen flat by fitting a period Raydot overtaking mirror on the drivers side of the windscreen - I have convex glass fitted in this mirror which gives good all round rear vision. This mirror is mounted on a bracket with a ball on the end which enables the mirror to be swivelled to whatever angle / plain is required. Not sure on the availability of these in the U.K. but they were made by J.Neale & Sons. Birmingham England This has un-doubtedly proved to be the best way to overcome this problem - having owned & used my YT for over thirty years I've yet to see any better solution to the problem. It certainly makes screen down driving safe as well as a great fun! See YT2618 in YT's on parade to view the mirror Ron
