MG MG Y Type - YT#4127 - Where is she?

I owned YT #4127 for a good many years, with the intention of restoring her. But times change and I came to a point where I felt she needed to go. Of course hindsight is always great, but that was a mistake - even though I got my price. The new owner had the car shipped to Israel about a year and a half ago, and the car showed up on Ebay not too long thereafter. I can't "unsell" this car, but I'd sure like to know where she ended up.

Anybody know?

Thanks,
Allen

I just dug the following thread from the October 2007 BBS archives:

http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=archiveth&archiveyear=13_2007.dat&access=&subject=13&subjectar=13&source=T&thread=2007101314255524015

This is the car I'm looking for.

The eBay item is not available after 6 months or so after the end of an auction. Your only hope to trace it would be to contact the guy you sold it to and see if he is willing to tell you who bought it ot to pass on your details to the buyer. As far as I am aware (but please check with the Registrar) it hasnt been re-registered with the MG Car Club Y Type Register. You could also ask the Registrar if it does re-surface if he would let you know and be willing to pass on your contact details to the new owner for them to contact you too.

Good idea, Paul. Thanks for the suggestion. I might still have the e-mail address for the guy who bought it from me.

Well, I wrote to the guy I sold it to, and he wrote back that he had decided to keep the car after all. I am relieved that I now know where the car is. He has even promised me pictures.

So, at least for now, I'm happy!

Allen,
Curiously, 4124, 4125 and 4126 were all shipped to Australia, arriving in Aprl, 1950 and were all black/green!

Steve,

Interesting. I didn't know that. All I know is that there were no factory records for 4127 or 4128. Unless somebody on the BBS knows, 4128 has not yet shown up.

Since 4127 was an EXU, it is quite possible that 4128 (whereever she is now) will also be an EXU. As EXUs they would only have been exported to the US as they had certain features that were unique to the US models.

Both 4127 and 4128 are listed on David Pelham's Factory Production Records ~ Recreated, although the whereabouts and existance of 4128 is currently unknown. Copies of this can be downloaded from the listings on the side of the NEWS page at www.mgytypes.org.

Paul,

I think I misspoke. My recollection is that David told me that the original factory production records did not indicate what these cars were, and that he was quite happy that 4127 had shown up.

Does that sound about right to you? Apologies for any errors on my part.

Thanks,
Allen

Hi Allen

Perfectly possible as David Pelham's excellent piece of work is already in its 6th edition since 2003! It is a continually improving and developing work and I would not be surprised if David has another edition due out soon.

Thanks Paul. Now all I have to do is find an affordable YA project car...

Good luck! Stateside or over the pond?

It would be stateside, Paul.
