MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - and remember...

the ZS/ZR both started out life as a Honda. They were Hondas to begin with before MGR improved on them.

They used to be turds, but now they have been polished.
Gary

Polished they maybe, but let's not tarnish the ZR with any Honda parentage!
The ZR started as a re-engineered 25 which started as the 200 mk3 and had no Honda input whatsoever, apart from using their manky switch gear.

The 200 was in fact destined to be the 100/Metro replacement, but BMW had ideas that calling it a 200 would make it more upmarket and that they could sell it at Escort prices. The ZR/25 is fairly unique in being the one car Rover designed themselves along with the F mostly prior to the BMW takeover. The 200 dash also found its way into the earlier 200/400 derivatives such as the coupe, tourer and cabriolet.

I think you will find theres alot more Honda in the ZR than meets the eye.
Wasn't the R3 platform a shortened version of the R8 (mk2 200) platform?
The ZR goes back donkeys years, even further back than the ZS.

I got the impression it was mostly Rover's work, that was the big news at the time of its launch in 95. Keith Admas website has an excellent write up on the development, must go and re-read it.

Thanks.

thanks for an interesting link, Martin. Been up a few nights reading it. From long slow decline, to the spirit of today, cancelled projects that were too expensive, and to the parts bin specials that succeeded. MGR would be a highly rated company if it weren't for...........
Gary

Glad to be of service!
Needs printing out in book format, would defo buy a copy!
