MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Help! ZR ignition problem

Came to start my 12month old ZR160, turned the key, engine just makes a clicking sound followed by an electronic beep. System warning lights all stay illuminated and no mileage display appears. What is going on!? Fortunately it is still under warranty and will be ringing garage in morning!

Get under the bonnet, down on the starter motor and check that the big spade connecter is making a good tight connection. I had the same problem on my R25

On further checking - I noticed the battery charge indicator was indicating a discharged battery. Sure enough, a quick recharge enabled the car to start, but it looks as if I will be needing a new battery. This is somewhat disturbing as the car (& therefore, I would expect the battery too) is only 12 months old. There was no indication that the battery would suddenly fail, no sluggish starting etc. As far as I know, the alternator is in good condition, and I always turn off ancillary equipment asap. Could it be I just have had a crap battery fitted or is there something else behind it. Anyone else suffered this? I see the F'ers have had similar threads in the past.

Have you had the car from new? Surely a complaint to the dealer/MGR if so? If not, have a look on the battery there is sometimes an indicator of its manufacturing date. Dealer may have swapped the car's original battery for a mate, and you got the dud?

Never!
