MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Here's Vauxhall!

Astra SRI Turbo

Vauxhall are to launch a warm up act for the forth coming Astra GSI. The SRI Turbo is on sale from May. This will use the "Old" cast iron block 2 litre Turbo motor, plus the brakes from Coupe. The suspension is from a not sold here OPC Astra, but I am afraid the excellent winged Recaro Rally seats. With 185 lb ft from 2,000 rpm its mid range will hit home like a hammer!

St 170 and even Type "R"s will be stung by its pulling power. It comes with Air con, traction, Xenon's all for £16,500……Some what cheaper than 19,500 for the MUCH slower Focus! (Ha HA FORD).

I am delighted that non-*ag Labour car cars are now coming thick and fast. So its over to you MGR, lets have the octagon answer!

As a Z owner i find talk of the oppostion important.
Mega taked about the ST170 for what seemed an eternity
and was man enougth to admit it was not up to the job when he test drove it.
When the new ZS arrives it will be cars like the astra turbo and the CTR that the ZS will be judged by.
So lets see what standards they set, then let MG set new standards.
just my thoughts

Although the figures for the Astra look good on paper and I'm sure performance won't dissapoint, you have to remeber that its a GM/Vauxhall.....The worlds most dullest car manufacturer? Probally.
David Harasym

Modern vauxhalls r not dull. the latest astra is a very good car and the forthcoming turbo engine will give it the extra poke the excellent chassis needs. as long as it beats the focus! the ZS needs some extra power (torque) so it can compete, and a better designed interior (even though it's not that bad, just too honda)
dave

Well after now seeing pics of the above mentioned Astra, I can confirm that it ain't much at all in the looks Department.

Civic TypeR
or
ZS/ZR with increased performance would be better bet.
David Harasym

The styling of a car doesn't cut a lot of ice with Mega.

All he worries about are seats and how fast it goes.

Come to think of it, a turbo charged lavatory would be perfect for him...
Chris

You drive a MGF don't you Chris?
A Motorised Lav!

this site is intensely disturbing.

Ok Chris
I will spell it out for you. Your MGF is a load of crap.
Built from the bits left over frome the Metro (bad bits). Even MGR now admit that it was bloody awfull. They had the "Bright idea" to dump the gas sub frames, and re engineer the car to become the TF (Total fix/their words).

Everybody will know NOT to buy an "F" but get a "TF" instead! I don't want your crappy MGF and i can't think of anybody that will either!
Enjoy the "Crappness".

Hi Mega,

Blimey, you really are in a stew over this aren't you?

Don't know of anyone from MGR describing the 'F as "bloody awful". Don't know about dumping the "gas subframes". The subframes are actually very similiar, I believe, on the TF just with modifications to take springs rather than the hydragas units.

Don't know about Total Fix either, with all the cost saving changes on the car.

And when the hydragas is properly setup, on the 'F, it really is rather good, especially when (IMO) tweaked by third parties like Mike Satur and Tech Speed etc.

I have an 'F (Trophy) and a ZR160. I notice from your other posts that you may consider a ZR if seating is more to your taste. Well, if you believe that the ZR will handle better than a correctly setup 'F then you are mistaken, and I am not criticising the ZR.

I can't see that everyone will buy a TF over an 'F. The other 'F threads show some who are taken with the TF and I know of others who prefer the styling of the 'F.

I hope you do decide to go on the 14th, them maybe you can say you know my car. However, why don't you become a pleasant person. I don't care if you disagree with me and occasionally you say something I agree with, but why all the anger, If you don't like the 'F and you don't have one, what's the problem?

Oh and by the way, if I had a pound for everyone who said to me, " if you ever decide to sell it, give me a call..." I would be having, literally, a very nice night out.

I look forward to making your aquaintance, now I'm just off for a drive!
Chris

Chris,

I wouldn't waste time typing. Mega is a total nut. Split personality. Just read some of his past postings in the archive.

ProMGR

Ah what's up Pro, missing your wifes Metro. I am sure you will find something with a small bore exhurst system for your "Personal needs".

Mega

Chris, that wouldn't be a night out in Wombwell?LOL.
BTW,MG are bringing out a Turbo engined Z car soon and a high lift VVC cam engine, probably good for 180BHP.
