MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Hype Hatches are GO!

Here come the Hyper Hatches!

Anything with over 200BHP, before you ask is what I mean be "Hyperhatch". In Sept will see The Focus RS, Vauxhall GSI TURBO Seat RS, Mini-cooper works, and hopefully "Movement" from MGR!

And unlike the useless Type "R", they will all be forced induction, eg Turbo or Supercharged. No having to drive the car like a 14-year joy rider, loads of mid range toque when you want it, at low revs.

It been a long wait, years and years spent under chairman Mao, sorry chairman Blair. Now new good to excellent fast cars are coming………………Thank GOD!

Having watched Drivel this evening it would appear that there is no need to pay over the odds for a souped up shopping trolley from Honda (or presumably Ford or Vauxhall). All you need to do is go to an auction and splash out 300-400 quid on an old rep mobile and then spend a weekend tarting it up.

Marvellous!

Mega, they've been around for years! Remember the 1989 MG Maestro turbo? Maybe not, probably before your time. Anyway, it had 152bhp and was the fastest hotch hatch of the 80's. With very little tuning it be tweeked up to 200bhp without great expence. And if you wanted 16 valves then a Tomcat engine would slide in without too much hassle and give you an easy 200+bhp.......my wife drive's one to work every day.

Ask Roger Parker - he built it........

The FWD MG's of the late 80's are the cheapest and best value performance cars for your money. They still leave most cars on the road for dust.

Thanks Martin
Yes those pre BMW days, yes when Rover tried to and almost did do the bussness! I remember "Autocar" having a little trouble with their "T" serise Motor.

Somthing about the rod coming though the block!, As for the Turbo eight valves, my "Normal" MG Metro was quicker and it didn't drop a Valve like my mates down the road did......quite often as i remember!

The Tomcat didn't wish to stay on the road even with the aid of an L.S.D as i remember. I perfer todays cars, i just wish MGR could give the ZR a bit more mid range and better seats.
Mega.

T series was a good unit,my 620ti did 124000 miles and only needed 1 head gasket at 44000,no problems after that,so there!.Autocar were just unlucky with their 620ti long termer, they praised everything else about the car.

As long as your talking about the Metro Turbo, i agree with you, the Turbo metro was slow for it's type and a well driven MG metro could keep up with one.

No such problems with a MG Maestro Turbo though, an excellent under rated car.
