MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - I'M ANNOYED WITH MY DEALER!!

OK, i ordered my MG ZS 120+ on the 15/7, thats BEFORE they were shown at the dealers!!! I knew I like the look of the car....

But now, with the promised 3/9/01 delivery date edging ever closer and no definite delivery date confirmed, I'm getting worried that it wont arrive!

Today when I spoke to my dealer they said that they would call me next wednesday to tell me if they had any news... but from his attitude I'm thinking it wont be delivered for another 2-3 weeks!

SURELY I was one of the first to order this car? Other members of this group who only recently ordered their car already have it sat in the garage waiting for them!

Are they taking the piss or what???!

Phil Palmer

What is the name of the dealer so that people wont go there! I went tot Perrys of Huddersfield the other day and got nothing out of them they wouldnt even talk to me! They claim to be the largest MG Rover dealer in West Yorkshire - my ar*e they have reduced the showroom by half to accomodate Alfa Romeo - dickheads - hope they lose their franchise!
Rob

Phil, its not just your dealer, apparently due to the demand for the Z cars, the delivery dates are getting pushed back and back... However, you would have thought that yours would have been one of the first, depends when they started to make the 120s I guess, I've only ever seen 180s.

BE PATIENT. If demand for these cars is as high as we're told, then a lot of punters will have no option but to be patient. Personally, I would prefer to wait say a year for things to level out and then delivery for most models will not only be immediate, but, more importantly to me, a much better deal will be obtainable. Been buying new cars since the 1960s and these very worthwhile financial savings have ALWAYS been the case. PLUS, any problems with a new production run should also be ironed out by then.

My local MG-R outlet in Gloucester City, has only had THREE Zed-cars as far as I can tell. A red ZT, a Blue ZS180 and a blue ZR160. The ZS180 soon disappeared, becoming a demonstrator I suspect. The ZT is still a showroom focal point and the ZR160 now has a fresh VO51 registration number plate on it ready for delivery to some lucky devil. I suspect these cars could have been sold several times already if demand really is high for the as we are told.

So, Dear Punters, if you must have that new "Zed" now, you'll pay a little extra and have a little wait if they are as popular as it now seems.... which, all things considered, has to be good news for any MG enthusiast .... :o))

JMcF.

P.S. We in the UK are already calling them "Zed"-cars. Over the Atlantic, if they ever appear, will our American MG friends call them "Zee"-cars? ..... vivre la difference and all that..... :o))

Phil,
It is vital that alll the dealers which are part of the large chains, (Inchcape, et al) are given an unfeasibly large berth as these are just profit centres, stuffed with ignorant, corporate drones with zero idea of how deal with customers and even less in the way of after-sales integrity.
My own favourites are family-run outlets. Honest, decent people, who consider your car one of "theirs" and I wholeheartedly recommend Kernahan (Witney), James Edwards (Chester) and Trident (Ottershaw). Ring one of them and be surprised how they fight your corner for the stated delivery date.
Dave

The dealer concerned is SGL Preston
and is owned by MG-Rover.
Joe

Yep! That's them!!

Its so annoying that they cant even give me a appx date when I will have my new toy!!!

SWINES!

MG Rover dont own any dealers. SGL are to the best of my knowledge in receivership having closed their main Leyland showroom. I agree to avoid all big plc's although I here Dixon Motors is quite good - Inchcape have dramatically reduced their MG Rover holdings and will probably have none this time next year. Note Inchcape also own Wadham-Kenning and Mann-Egerton. Guildford franchise closed at the end of June
Rob

Phil,

If the cars are in huge demand, I expect MG Rover are giving priority to the the great British car buying public rather than those purchasing through the employee scheme.

Customers first - seems fair to me!

Cheers

SGL (Station Garages, Leyland) also co-owned a SEAT franchise, (at Leyland) on which far more emphasis was placed.
Is anyone aware of dealer recruitment plans, recently opened/opening dealers, as this downward spiral cannot continue.....
Dave

Patrick

I am buying through the employee scheme! Maybe that's what the problem is!!!!

Rob

I once got a letter from SGL Preston which said at the bottom "MG ROVER trading as SGL Preston".....

Thanks all for your input!

Oh right perhaps they are buying dealerships now - not a bad idea

Dave

Brand new MG-R dealership opened this weekend in Nottingham used to sell Alfas I think.
John Manson

Is that in addition to Priory Motors and W.A.Hatfield?
Rob

Rob
Yes, they are called Gordon Lamb. They have a number of other dealerships locally.

we booked a ZS180 for a company test drive last Thursday. We ordered one there and then and it gets delivered on September 1st.
Mantles aren't small, I know of at least 3 showrooms tehey have, but they've been great so far.

Cheers

I have to agree. I test drove and order my ZS180 through their Royston showroom, and have been completely happy with the service so far. Of course, it's the after-sales - once they've got your money - that really counts but, if a dealer can't even get the first bit right, I'd look to use somewhere else once you've got the car.

A slight aside on the large dealership chains. When the tax laws change again next year and it becomes even more unfeasible to own a company car, I assume that these dealerships will have to try and be nice to non-corporate customers, and maybe even understand what customer service means.....
We live in hope...

I've been thinking about that one Mark - If I opted out of the company car scheme, but still wanted to lease a car, why should I have to pay 3 months up front AND still pay half the remaing lease costs if I found that I had to give the car up early for any reason ? Surely one or the other would be fairer...

Two things come to mind here.

The ZS180 is clearly more readily available than the 120, especially since my own order initially slotted for 18thg Sept delivery is now with the dealer. I have also heard that there was some hiccup in some parts supply very recently.

If that hiccup was in respect of certain trim then this may explain why the 120 is affected and not the 180, this is just my speculation though.
