MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - JAGs Pain/ MGs Gain?

So its not all sweetness and light for the baby Jag. On "Look Northwest" tonight there was a story about it. An American chap put it like this. "The ads say a JAG for $30,000, but by the time you're added a few extras it's more like$40,000!

What is worrying to Jag is that they see the ZT V8s as a big a threat as anything from BMW or Merk! AS my contact in Halewood said " Look Mega you got a choice, a Mondeo in drag or a V8 ZT". He tells me that the bosses at Halewood have even been on Detroit warning them to limit the supplies to MGR!

I must confess given a choice of a four-wheel drive Jag "Drag act" or a blood&guts US V8………Its MG for ME.
Mega

Great! Henry to be vigorusly shafted by John and the boys. Ford are already contracted to supply the V8 in stated numbers, so no probs there, and without MG-R helping Ford by keeping in business, and not letting all those suppliers go to the wall who also supply Land Rover, I would say that Mr. Towers has his hands firmly on the testicles of Detroit, and can have all the V8's he wants.
Dave

mega. i never thought i'd see the day you would make a sensible post, but you have proved me wrong!
as for limiting supplies of yankie V8's,well haven't you overlooked the fact that mg-rover supply more engines to ford.
btw i see the zt v8 in the flesh and it looks
soooooooooooooooooo right!
kevin

Yes,Kevin I agree,Mega seems to be a changed person.
He even says" MG for me",which should be normal as, after all, he has m&g in his name.

Look guys
Please let me set the record. I think the zs is good and the ZT very very good. I am pleased that the plod is beinging to try the ZT out.

I think that the ZR is total crap, and the MGF is little more than a Metro bit&bobs that just does not work.

I WANT MGR to do well, i would like to surport MGR, i hope to buy a MG (i have owned 1 or 2 in the past) but i Wil NOT lie. I will NOT bulsh*t over them.
I hope over the next year that MGR will sort out the "seat" problem and lots and lots of New customers buy MGs and vist this site.
Then ask "Who is this Mega guy and why can't he spell?"

Re: ZR

Just came in after a drive in wife's ZR 120.

You're wrong!

Horses for courses perhaps but it does what it's meant to very well: namely; go quick (ish), corner like it's on rails, stop straight in a short space, entertain when asked but be docile and reasonably refined when pootling - it's a town/shopping/kids in the back car - look distinctive (trophy blue turns heads), ours is very solidly built, doesn't cost the earth to insure, has all the toys you need on such a car.

In short it's a value for money package, part of a range with a broad appeal. It's not "crap" (your choice of adjective) - it's not the last word in engineering but it has appeal, that's why we got one. In time, I believe the sales figures and satisfied MGR customers will prove you wrong.

[Any other ZR owners like to add their voice?]

Doubt you'll review your opinion MEGA, to which you are entitled, but thought you might be interested to know that there are ZR owners who like their cars, recommend them, believe that MGR have done well to develop such a package and bring it to market and are enjoying a car which would not be available had things turned out differently last year.

Regards

Pete

I surpose it depends on how high the bar is set.
Each to there own.
Mega

P.S I am happy na delighted to hear that Ford can not pull the ground from under MGR. I shall inform my contact in Halewood, he will be "PLEASED"!
