MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - k series at 135 HP

If the TF has the k series engine at 135HP,why cannot this also be used as an upgrade on the 120 in the ZS?
(apparently the 160HP turbo is too prone to failure to serve this purpose)
Tony

It can.

I think that it's a modified head and cams... but don't quote me on that.

There's no reason why you cannot upgrade the ZS120 in many many ways. It's a really good starting point.

The head is identical :o) The extra 17bhp is thanks to a warmer set of cams which has an extra 5mm lift and rather longer duration. The TF135 engine also uses the alloy VVC type plenum - although this won't contribute significantly to the power gain between the 118 and 135 engines.

Great news: the Cams are a straight swap too - especially on cars that use the wasted spark twin coil ignition system.

Not sure why the "High Performance" cams (as they are termed in the parts catalogue) aren't fitted to all 1.8 litre versions of the engine: perhaps as you say to give more clear sky between this engine and the higher powered variants? Or perhaps because in the heavier saloons, the slightly reduced low-end torque with the 135 cam doesn't best suit the application?

Shut up you sad bunch of tools, with your pathetic little shopping cars.

Yeah right! Like my motor is a shopping car

please all laugh at this sad Jonesy aresol

Hopefully Jonesey will soon be barred from this website and placed under the care of a psychiatrist.

Appreciated your comments and presume that the extra power may have to be paid for in lower torque, higher fuel consumption and insurance rating... but wonder whether on balance it would be worth it as 120HP is getting common on very run of the mill cars these days.
Tony

Even if there is a trade off,I think its necessary ,for marketing reasons,to show some continuing progress and offer a "140 HP" version in the 4 cyl car and perhaps a token "190HP" in the 6 cyl car.
This would also encourage the auto press to print new road tests (which are not made on only simple body modifications),and hence renew public interest.

George is right

And of course we want approved X power toys for those of us who cant just replace our cars

like a procharge supercharger for my 4.6litre V8 ZT260 ...sorry my shopping car
