MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Mega 'Upsets' a Honda dealer

Hi Gang
Well got up this morning, washed the car and went to Southport Honda. I did what all the car mags tell you, ring first chat to dealership etc.

Got there, yes he has no end of Type"R"s in. 2 silver, 1 black, 1 red. Great so i wait for my hero to look over mine.

He spends 10 mins on the phone chatting to some one about this and that. Than i ask the question.

"Do you have ant with Air-con?"
It was if i had kick him in the balls!
"They don't have air-con!"
"No Honda Type R has air-con!!!"

"Oh" I said, " Its an option" "£1100 one"
" Would you pay £1350 extra!"

"I don't want to , but i feel that you would need it in this car"

At this point he goes off the deep end.
"Well i that case i don't think i should value your car!!!!"

He is now egdeing me out the showroom, strange because there was no one else about.

A couple of years ago i would have been very pissed off, but i just found it funny!

The dealership in Liverpool, tells me that Air-con is a dealer fit which i find strange. They are both Lookers dealerships and i think they have brought a sh*t load of type "R"s without air con.

I will do some more ringing around, and find out. Then i shall write to the head office about "My Hero".
Regards.
Mega.
P.s didn't get the test drive, but like the seats/ driving polistion.
Mike MEGA

Now, go back and apologose to the poor man.
JH Gillson

After reading Mega's post twice I'm still finding it difficult to work out exactly how Mega managed to piss the dealer off.

It seems obvious however that his mere presence was enough... .

Mega
Here i am at work today bored.so for a laugh i thought i'd check your story out.
firstly i called reynolds on 01704 540550,gave a discription of a scally with a gti6 and they never heard of you!
so i tried lookers on 0151 709 8261 same drill but same reply.
so what i want to know is, are you making all these stories up just like having dinners with high rolling jaguar executives :)
Jason couch

Of course he's making it up. He's being going on about a new car for ages, yet done nowt, he is a fantasist without the means to buy a new car. Wise up MG BBS for heavens sake. His jag stories are all cr@p, BTW.
ace

If he did upset the Honda dealer, the truth behind it would probably be that the salesman is really and MG fan and recognised MEGA'S bu115h1t.
Which ended in him being barred from all the local Honda dealers.
Shame we cant bar him from this site!!!

Mega

Why didn't you just ask him to sell you the seats and driving position? If you were very lucky thats all you'd get in exchange for that crap you drive around in.

Cheers

Mike
Nice comment, shame Mega can't afford an MG. But then again do we really want to have a prat like him associated with MGR...In any form!!!
Cheers

Not that the seats will fit in a quality car!!!!

I reckon he is a car body sprayer from Kirkby, earns 8k and drives a G reg fiesta XR2I sprayed yellow. He loves to tell all his mates the same stories who idolise him whilst drinking alcholic iron brew down in there local "The Cock & Bullsh*t".

LOL.....
K Heaton

G reg XR2?
Are you sure that it isn't a 1.1 Fiesta with a body kit glued on?

LOL

JLD

Strange how 'Mega' has gone all quiet now!

I was thinking more of a 106 XS!
Mega Fan Club

he cant afford a 106! can he?????
S Harris

Is this the end of Mega?
Mr Peebles

Surely!! (but will miss his idiocy!)
K Heaton

>Is this the end of Mega?<

Err, which end are we talking about? Come to think about it my question is irrelevant. As sh*te spills freely from both ends, they must be the same.

Cheers

We know that he goes on a bit about seats and driving positions etc, but we have grown to quite like the bloke. On some technical things he can be very helpful.
As you don't see people on this BBS, and the seats all fit us fine, it might be that Mega is just an odd shape.
Nik & Anita

Mega!!!, Are you a FAT KNACKER!?
K Heaton

I think the overall comment is right. Older Type-Rs are hopelessly underspecced. Neither the new Type-Rs have Air-Con. and from experience Honda dealers retro-fit the options hence the extra cost perhaps.

Not sure about the Civic Type-R but then it looks odd anyway so I don't think I'll have one.
Rich

The whole point of the Type R concept (remember what 'R' stands for?!), is to provide keenly priced, exceptionally well handling sports cars.

You don't get aircon in racing cars and you don't get it by default in a type R. If you want luxury and creature comforts, buy and SE model.

They upgrades are available as a dealer fit option. This doesn't add extra to the cost of the option, if purchased with a new car. It only gets seriously silly if you get the options put in later.

Cheers

Kieren

ps. The Civic Type R looks odd - I agree. But I have driven one. The gearbox is simply stunning and the handling is superb. I am waitning for the new Accord though...
Kieren Gibson

Come on Kieron since when is the Honda Civic R Type a "Racing Car"!!!, yeah it is quick, however the 180 knocks it for 6 when it comes to handling.

At the end of the day a blocked up M62 in the middle of a red hot summer is no race track, with air con generaly nowadays a standard feature in the vast majority of cars albeit a ford Ka or an Evo 6.

Is it more of a case that Honda are supplying a relitavely cheap car and then charging you triple the costs for medial extras!!?

K.

The new civic type R .dont believe the hype read this.

Rod Munch

Yes

But, look what they said about MG ZT 190...
John Manson

On the basis that you can't go anywhere quickly in England these days, I reckon anyone buying a new car without air-con needs his bumps felt. It won't make a single scrap of difference to the performance of a road car.

Mike
Michael Watkins

Hi K. The civic Type R has been a "Racing car" since James Kaye got his grubby little paws on it, and is whipping everything else to oblivion.
However, Type R is a concept, part of which is little or no compromise.
I have to confess - I compromised with both my Integra and Accord Type R's - and had aircon in both.
Accord wasn't too bad, but it made a big difference in the Integra. Added significant weight and you could feel a big difference when you switched it on & off.
Couldn't follow that web-link above though. Tried copying and pasting too.

KG - agreed, I have a Civic VTEC (the previous model), and can feel the aircon turning on and off. It gets switched off whenever I'm in a hurry :-)
David

Have I got the wrong thread here? Thought I'd find something intersting about MG Z's!!
martin

But it's title contains Honda....

only joking - it's after Friday lunch now !

This discussion seems to be heading to Looneyland City Centre - the fundimentals of aircon operation are the same for virtually all cars -the aircon compressor is belt driven from the engines accessory drive. An electro-magnetic clutch switches the compressor in and out as and when your aircon temperature sensor decides you need additional cooling. The compressor resistance takes at least 5 bhp from your engines output to function, so when your aircon cuts in you can really feel it, especially with a car like a Type R which has very little torque at low revs. If you have a vehicle with a big V8 / V6 with masses of torque you never notice the added drag of the aircon compressor, but if you want to first away from the lights in a small engined car keep the aircon switched off.
Dealer fitted aircon is a pain in the ar*e, it never works properly - visit a car plant and see which parts go in first into the new bodyshell then you'll see why it always makes sense to spec. aircon as an OE fitment.
