MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Message for Megsy

Megsy baby, you just don't get it do you?

A little enlightenment...

I spotted my first CTR the other day. It’s not that I haven’t seen them about it’s just that the one I saw the other day was parked next to a Ford Galaxy and until I saw them both together and got the difference in scale I began to realise that despite appearances it wasn’t just another MPV. You see MPVs just don’t grab my attention, it’s something to do with the ‘mumsy on a school run’ image and them looking like a van with windows. If Honda do a Civic Type R Express, in the mould of the MG Express, then the car would to all intents and purposes, look exactly like a mini-Transit, which is ironic considering the Transit Courier doesn’t! I don’t care how quick or reliable a car is, if on first glance it looks like a mummy barge then I am just not interested.

Is it another victim of a corporate design strategy? Who knows, certainly Honda are capable of producing reasonable looking vehicles. The S2000 for instance, which whilst looking slightly off, proportion-wise is generally pretty good. Likewise with the NSX, IMO the details let it down a little in so far as it is slightly fussy in places, but there is no doubt that it looks as good as it goes. So why is the CTR such a dog? How is Honda’s design department structured, did the ‘Type R’ department inherit this ‘brick’ from the mainstream division and given what they had to work with, this was the best they could come up with? If so, they didn’t do a very good job IMO, if MG can make the aging 25 look as good as the ZR, why can’t Honda come up with something better than the CTR?

And this is the car you 'claim' to own and try to use to justify your anti-MGR prejudices! Astonishing, you really do take the biscuit my friend, what is worse is the fact that you really can't see that we are not even a little bit interested in the CTR - it really is that boring.

People with Zeds do not want a 'Q car', they don't want a mini-MPV look-a-like with an engine that needs to be thrashed to get the best out of it, they don't want to blend in with the crowd, hide their light under a bushel, or be a wolf in sheep's clothing. They want their cars to look as good as they go and the Zeds do this job and then some. Whilst the CTR certainly has the performance, it just doesn't cut it in the appearance stakes and until Honda come up with something a bit more striking then they will be laughed at by people like us.

You are a sad and pathetic little kid who delights in shouting 'doom' when you should be supporting your fellow countrymen. By buying Japanese you are not sending a message to MGR, you are just kicking them when they are down. People like you are symptomatic of all that is wrong with the UK at the moment, when someone is in trouble, surely we, as English people, a nation which has a world wide reputation for fair play should be helping them up, not kicking them in the teeth. Do you want to see them fail? Is this how you get your jollies? Do you think there are people such as yourself in Japan shouting 'doom' whenever Honda bring out a car? Rarely has the term 'get a life' been more appropriate Megsy, i've not been on this board for long and like you, i tend to post to get a reaction, so i can see where you are coming from. But i am so tired of your constant slagging off of products you don't even own using spurious 'information' that despite the fact that you try to clothe it as insider info, is completely transparent to anyone with half a brain. Yes this is a free to all forum, but really Megsy, even i think you have outstayed your welcome.

How long have you lot on here been putting up with this simpleton? How do you stand it? Can anything be done to get rid of him?

Megsy, you are the BBS equivalent of Abu Hamza and if i could revoke your British citizenship like David Blunket i would. Free speech is one thing, but you are clearly taking the micky. Besides, if your typing skills are anything to go by, English is clearly not your first language and you'll probably enjoy exile in another server of your choosing. Or is your hook and blind eye the reason you can't operate a keyboard properly?

I am a 39 year old Self-employed Engineer that knows poor engineering when i see it! Went to the MG laurch night here in Liverpool and just couldn't belive hoe poor the cars where.

All this flag waveing Bulsh*t, they badly made cars, from a bad factory, made by a not very intrested work force, run by poor mangerment, sold though crap dealerships!

Read the J.D Power, read the car mags.....use you mind!

Mega

MEGA,

I can forgive anyone their poor spelling; I can forgive anyone their poor choice of sheepishly going with the 'latest thing' Focus clone Buzz-box, but I will NEVER forgive you your severe anti-Britishness .... EVER!!

Suggest you PO to some alien land permanently and take your superior alien wheels with you .... and do it soon for CRISSAKES.

.... and you're STILL poxy anonymous!!!!

Hey Smiley I.o.M - like your style - way to go :o))
John McFeely

Crikey, they let anyone call themselves an engineer these days!

I, too, am a degree qualified mechanical engineer, and I will agree that the ZT benefits from a superior quality of design that results in a superb vehicle with the odd V6 engine failure. Of course, without knowledge of how well the engine is or was treated, prior to failure, it would be unfair to blame MG R for a 'crap' design. Without necessarily taking a car apart and undertaking various tests related to the material strength and dimensioanl tolerances etc (something I doubt I could do on a 'laurch' night, I would, personally, as a chartered engineer and professional consultant, refrain from making sweeping statements.

Certainly, nobody disagrees that the ZR and ZS would benefit from a redesign but as VW discovered with the Polo, there is a limit to how much investment can be placed in smaller cars to achieve a quality level and still make it an affordable option. Surprisingly, from other forums, my impression is that most ZR buyers would never have looked at a Rover 25, so there must be something right about the ZR, perhaps the overall package is balanced?

I am sure that if a Ferrari driver challenged your bread van to a 0-60 sprint, you would cry foul on the basis of it being an uneven contest in power terms. Therefore think long and hard about rubbishing MG R as a loser given that they have a very small resource in financial and personnel terms before comparing to the big boys.

Martin

"with the odd V6 engine failure...."

That's a understatement innit?? lol
Eric

The funny thing is they seem to happen at 13,000 miles. I seen a few posts and everytime 13,000 miles. Than last months CAR mag their's hit 13,000 miles.........and BANG!

I wonder what it is?

Mega read my last post....
I've driven 25.5k miles and NO BANG.

Where are all these owners of cars with blown engines?, certainly not on the internet by the coach load moaning as you would have us believe! The only person who who moans on a regular basis is you, and no one gives a XXXX, and u dont have a Zed!

I see imbeciles like "MEGA" and thank God for the work done by Messrs. Flint and Childs, and the ability to edit or remove him!!

So you want a nanny state where someone chooses who/what to read/ignore for you.
Dot

Weird. I have passed the 13k mark and nearing 20k. Must have been out of the country when my engine went bang and the fairies must be topping up the oil level every night!
Anbody know if the Freelanders are breaking down at 13k miles in the US?

Was it in a Mitsubishi Zero per chance?
Patrick Beet

Could explain your problems with English!
Patrick Beet

Do you know Patrick when they made the Zero it was a highly advanced aircraft. Made from Magnessium it had great range and performance.

Sadly for impearal Japan they didn't devolpe it! Thus it was overtaken by the Americans, both in performance and production numbers.

Japan don't make mistakes like that any more!

Also bl**dy unreliable and expensive. They didn't even put the Kamikazi's in it at the end.

Thanks Dieter, now I know!

This is gonna run and run, 'bout time Meagre got a taste of his own medicine :-)

SF <--- Viewing from afar, at the moment. :-)
Scarlet Fever

"the Zero it was a highly advanced aircraft. Made from Magnessium it had great range and performance".

Absolute rubbish. The only advantage the Zero had was it was very light, and the reason for this was it did not have any armour plating, or self sealing fuel tanks. Made it a death trap for the pilot.

Oh and as for your magnesium theory, the aircraft will be made of an aluminium alloy, that alloy might have had a high magnesium content, however magnesium burns ferociously, see above.

Exactly what kind of engineer are you?
John Manson

A lightwieght buzz box that was OK as long as their was no opposition. Good to see the Civic drawing on the country's history!

< I am a 39 year old Self-employed Engineer that knows poor engineering when i see it! >

Really, why did you buy a CTR then? Poor seating position, leaking hose clips, gearbox woes.

< Went to the MG laurch night here in Liverpool and just couldn't belive hoe poor the cars where. >

That's LAUNCH, BELIEVE and HOW. For a so-called engineer you have no idea of the concept of 'attention to detail'.

< All this flag waveing Bulsh*t, they badly made cars, from a bad factory, made by a not very intrested work force, run by poor mangerment, sold though crap dealerships! >

That's WAVING, BULLSH*T, MAKE, INTERESTED and MANAGEMENT, tut tut tut Megsy, you really should spend more time with a spell checker. I mean, how are you supposed to earn a living as an engineer when you clearly have no idea of how to operate one of the simplest tools available - a keyboard. All you have to do is press the correct keys in the correct order - it really is that simple.

< Read the J.D Power, read the car mags.....use you mind! >

Hmmm, surely if you read these kinds of things you are opening yourself to their opinions and may be swayed by them. This is a very dangerous thing to do, as they are commercial organisations, only interested in selling magazines - by any and all means necessary. Your sentence is contradictory Megsy-baby, using you mind means not being unduly swayed by the published press and making your own decision based upon facts, not popularist hearsay.

< The funny thing is they seem to happen at 13,000 miles. I seen a few posts and everytime 13,000 miles. Than last months CAR mag their's hit 13,000 miles.........and BANG!

I wonder what it is? >

Coincidence? No? How about a ruse to sell more issues of CAR magazine? Too cynical? OK, how about the muppet at the CAR magazine office who was responsible for this car not bothering to check the oil levels? You know little things like basic maintenance. Oh, by the way, when was the last time you checked the oil level in your CTR Abu Hamza? What do you mean you don't need to? Have you even bothered to read your manual? More importantly, what about complying with the terms of the warrantee?

< "Who in heaven would employ such an idiot."

Dieter my engineering company has lasted longer than the "master Race".

BTW Would like like to hear about my Grandfathers War time flying? >

Now that's just plain rude, and certainly uncalled for. Oh, while I am at it, you have a grammar problem with the capitalisation of the word 'Race' and another grammar problem later on; you have the word ‘like’ twice next to each other in the same sentence. I certainly would like to hear about your Grandfather's war time flying - I'm sure while he was up there being shot at all he could think about was how crap his British built plane was, wondering when the engine will blow up or wishing he was Japanese so he could be flying one of their 'oh so superior' aeroplanes. Or maybe I am mistaken and your Grandfather was a clown who was shot out of a cannon during the war years - I see from your comments that an imbecilic sense of humour was passed down in the gene pool. You are joking about how superior your CTR is, aren't you?

< Do you know Patrick when they made the Zero it was a highly advanced aircraft. Made from Magnessium it had great range and performance. >

That’s MAGNESIUM. So the metal caught fire in the presence of oxygen then. Elementary physics (pun intended).

< Sadly for impearal Japan they didn't devolpe it! Thus it was overtaken by the Americans, both in performance and production numbers. >

Thats IMPERIAL and DEVELOP Megsy. It may be painful for you to hear, but these spelling corrections are for your own good Megsy - if you want to play with the big boys and be taken seriously, you need to stop making these fundamental childish errors in your prose.

< Japan don't make mistakes like that any more! >

Really? Is this the sales pitch that convinced you to buy a Honda? 'We are perfect and never make mistakes'. I'm beginning to see your attraction to Hondas now Megsy, you obviously make so many errors yourself (the state of your postings makes that abundantly clear) you need to reduce the amount of errors that others inflict upon you. There is a name for people who suffer from this condition Megsy, they are called Control Freaks...

Here endeth the lesson, for now at least.

:)
Smiley

That is one helluva a post there Smiley!

....Not sure I share your feelings 100% but........
Eric

The guy is a pain.

Prejudiced against MGR despite not owning one, ill-informed and willing to believe anything and everything the press throw at him - worse still he then insists on lording this senstionalist pap on here as an attempt to justify his position. He is anti-British, anti-German, anti-anythingthatdoesn'thaveaHondabadge, anti-spelling, anti-grammar and very, very annoying. He is like an itch that no matter how hard you try you just can't scratch. But worse than all this, by implication he is calling anyone who buys an MGR product an idiot, and to be honest, i don't take too kindly to being insulted, especially over and over again on a forum that i visit for relevant information and entertainment.

So, i'm just annoying him in the same way that he annoys me. Maybe this should be on Flame Wars...

:)
Smiley

>Maybe this should be on Flame Wars...

Megsy has not worked how to scoll down the page that far !!

Hello Smiley

As its polling day you might want to exercise your vote here:

http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?s=85c26ed6e612dcbf2cea922e7e28c6f7&threadid=12928

It would appear that the vocal minority want him to stay, however the silent majority have different ideas.
John Manson

I don't have a problem with non-positive MGR viewpoints, just Mesgy, mainly because he is so prolific and his posts are 99% pointless in so far as they are primarily designed to wind up other forum users and insult them by implication.

The car's ain't perfect - no car is (even Megsy's precious mini-MPV Type R). If you have a problem and are upset about it, by all means post away, get things off your chest and also get some friendly and helpful advice while you are at it. This is when this forum works best, a sharing of common knowledge and experience between owners.

Someone reporting a problem is not however an excuse for yet another poorly worded, poorly spelled, snipe and jibe at MGR based upon spurious information, no personal experience and a belief that everyone who doesn't agree with his viewpoint is an idiot for wasting all that hard-earned money on a so-called inferior product.

I had an F, which was 100% fine. The odd squeak and rattle and a hood that initially leaked under the door mirrors but was sorted out under warrantee. I still pop into the F forum just to see what is going on and Megsy used to p*ss me off there too. 3 years and 46,000 trouble free miles later and i now have a ZR 160, which has also been 100% trouble free. Both cars were / are excellent and i am very happy with them. According to Megsy though, i should have bought a Honda and by not doing so i am less intellegent than him.

Well, hard as it may be for you to accept Megsy, I DON'T WANT A HONDA, especially the Civic. I think it's an uninspired mini-MPV / Focus cross breeding experiment, has ZERO road presence and is best suited to the school / shopping run. The only thing it has going for it is an engine that is pretty well engineered and a reasonable level of build quality. These two factors alone do not a good car make. Which brings me to the Type R, a car with an even worse driving position than the ZR 160, uncomfortable seats being the main problem here. It also suffers from being horrendously tiring to drive over long distances due to the fact that in order to get the best out of the engine you need to keep it at high revs. Trust me, i had one on test over a weekend and did over 500 miles on the mainland. At the end of it all? Fun, fast, overpriced and uncomfortable, now do you see why i bought a ZR? It may not have the same amount of go under the loud pedal, but it handles every bit as well, is just as much fun to drive, is more comfortable over long distances and was substantially cheaper to buy. As well as this it looks great, has massive amounts of road presence, in Trophy Yellow turns heads like you wouldn't believe, is part of a marque that has probably the largest fan / ownership / knowledge base in the world and as the icing on the cake, is British. I also get a buzz out of doing my bit to keep the company alive.

Call it flag waving if you like, but the fact is it really is a fantastic little car and i'm VERY happy to have spent my money buying one.

Finally, despite my feelings towards Hondas in general and especially the new Civic, i do NOT go on Honda forums slagging off thier cars or the company that makes them. I do NOT trawl through the motoring press looking for anything and everything negative about Hondas in order to lord it over the Honda forum's users (and by implication insult each and every one of them) and i do NOT hurredly rush through a small posting just so i can 'score points' (in your own mind) on the forum, resulting in the badly spelled diatribe that has become your trademark on here.

Get a life, get a better car, but most importantly of all, get away from me.

:(
Smiley

Smiley

Agree with you 100%.

For sure the cars could be better, the dealers could try harder, but for me the feeling I get driving the Trophy with the top down with some quintessentialy English Countryside flashing past, Union flags glinting in the sunshine simply cannot be beaten.

Sure you can do it in a Honda or Mazda or whatever but for me it just wouldn't be the same.

And when its raining like today the F (or is it a "rotting pile of Metro parts") stays in the garage and I get to drive the wifes ZR120!

What I just can't understand with Mega is this:

He states that he is a '39 year old Self-employed Engineer'. Now I would assume that what he probably means is that he know his way around a lathe, vertical & horizontal millers etc. I am also assuming that he does all his turning and milling or whatever here in the UK (Liverpool).

So if he earns his living in a trade that is based in this country. Supplying services to other companies also in this country (I asume he doesn't export). Then why is he such a f**cking idiot slaging off British engineering?

I think that Mega's real problem is that he has never been able to get work from MG-Rover directly or indirectly, as their standards are just too high. He used to do work for Ford Hailwood though!

I really would like to see him sawing off a branch of a tree.

What a tosser!

Come on now Mr ProMGR - Mega must be beyond all that, after all his buddies are the chairman (or should that be chairperson) or rather chairmen of companies such as Ford, GM and MGR and all it takes is the proverbial 'nod and wink' (yes WINK) and he will have all the work he needs.

So let us stop this Mega bashing and concentrate on more serious matters such as counting how many jelly beans we have.
