MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - mg zr 1.4 105 service light timer reset????how to?

hi, i have an mg zr 1.4 105, its a may 2003 model and i have done a full service, spark plugs, oil and all filters. also head gasket and new clutch. ever since putting the battery back on after doing the head gasket, the service light is on. and i have tried connecting pins 4 and 9 together on the diagnostic port but it doesnt work. its relly annoying me!!! also i had the battery off for a good week, will this of done anything?? it did reset the ecu, as it went back into learning mode and ran really sh*t for the first week or so now everything is fine apart from this stupid service light!! can anyone help please. thanks sam

Try Googling. For the bigger engine models they talk about linking the pins for 1 to 4 secs to reset the oil service light, and 8 to 25 secs to reset the inspection service light. But different pins to those you mention.

There is no Service Interval light on the ZR. The light you may have coming on is the Engine Management Light? Is it orange and does it look like an engine?
Steve T

hi, yes it is the engine management light but i have looked in the handbook and it says, if the light is flashing it means there is a fault with the engine or electrics etc. but if it is constantly on it is the service light. it also apparently has a 15000 mile timer on the light. thanks sam

Some of the sites Googled as mentioned talk about a display that counts down from 15,000, resetting restores things to that value.

As mentioned above, the only cars that MG Rover built that had a service interval indicator were the Rover 75 and MG ZT. Most likely is that the MIL is on, which indicates some kind of problem - you will need to connect your car to a OBD reader to find out what DTCs are logged.
