MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - MGZ relative to a BMW

Our local MGR dealer also has a section handling BMW.This week ,with the arrival of the first ZS 180 (silver colour, small spoiler) which they find very impressive,I looked into the BMW showroom to see what
might be the nearest equivalent. On paper (size, power etc),it seems to be the 325 which is of course a more modern design & better finished but costs £6,000 more. This is partly due to all kinds of stability
electronics which the MGR salesman says the ZS does not need since its handling is already so good(?)
Am I making a fair comparison here and if so what are the nearest BMW equivalents to the other MGZs ?
eg the new 316 Compact which costs only £2,000 more than the ZS 120+ hatchback.

Andrew, it is probably worth saying that although the prices maybe similar, drive the two cars and then decide if the BMW is worth the extra :)

Not too sure how the prices stack up in the UK (I haven't checked), I would have thought that the BMWs would have been more expensive here. (But then, new cars are more expensive here anyway!)

All depends on what you want; a well-sorted FWD design that doesn't need copious amounts of electronic gizmos to work properly or an ancient RWD design propped up with modern equipment. It also depend on whether you actually want to use the car over a long period, I should imagin that, even if MGR do go tits up in the future, consumables on the ZS will be a damn sight cheaper than the electronically enhanced BMW equivalent. As you probably have worked out, I don't like BMW's much.....

Don't forget Guys, BMW will charge for eveything! Everything is EXRTA! £6000 Hmm more like £8500!

Buy the ZS and pocket the savings!

Yorkie,

All the BMW's have a new suspension system (except the Z3). It certainly isn't an ancient system. The last 3-series to have the old system was the old Compact.

So what? BMW still have to load their wagons up with electronic gizmos to make them work OK!

Fabrice,
Your comment is even more difficult to read than a text in Walloon !
andrew

Walloon is awful to read, but then, it's more a spoken language that has been phonetically written...
