MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Modified Induction system for ZR and ZS 4 cylinder K series ranges

Following on from my request for feedback concerning the ZS180 induction system, and to pre-empt the obvious series of questions, it may interest some to know that it will hopefully not be long before a modified induction system for the 4 cylinder K series MG Rover saloon range is available. The benefits will vary from model to model, as for example a ZR120 has an inferior induction system before the throttle body than a ZR160, however work proceeds and I have every confidence that the resuts will be pleasing.

let me know how you get on with the zr160 model as i need more power, filter, chip, etc
rob

Yes I just hope that any increase is across the rev range and its not a case of taking from peter to give to Paul.(As in so many would be "improvements")

Indeed, which is why I am not one to follow the 'more noise must mean more power' brigade. The costs of developing and making these things is such that unless it works well, the cost, which is going to be much more than the simple replacement filter element and clamp on types, will result in too few sales and a lost cause.

Allied to this topic, can someone tell me why MG-R don't make more use of the 1.8 VVC engine
which apparently develops around 140 HP ie 20 more than the standard.Would this not be preferable for both the cheapest Rover 75 and the less powerful MG ZS ?

Andrew

The VVC delivers the extra power through extending the revs up to 7K. Just great in a small light(ish) car like a 200 or MGF but would we rather strange in something heavier like a 400 and downright odd in a heavy cruiser like the 75.

As you say Patrick- plus the additional cost involved in the VVC engineering suits the engine better to a premium priced product rather than the 'bargain-basement' model of the range.
