MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - New ZS180 in September 2004 'Total MG'

Page 31, look at performance. The 0-60 is a respectable 7.3 seconds. However, the top speed of 1139mph (yes!) really caught my eye. Clearly once it gets going the ZS180 is going to take some beating...
Chris Reeves

and I suppose it uses this engine to acheive that!!!

Neil

Neil,

Yes, seen that before - fabulous piece of kit. Howzabout:

5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm

Now that's what I call T O R Q U E !

Redlined @ 103 rpm... ;)

Sulzer - used to supply some power plants for many of the British Rail Diesel Locomotives when us Brits used to build 'em back in the 1960s....

Chris,
For those of us who cannot access the source, please tell us what is "new" about it-apart from the slight increase in top speed.

Antoine,

>>The 0-60 is a respectable 7.3 seconds<<

IIRC, which is NOT always the case, that's EXACTLY the same as recorded for the MG Montego Turbo which first appeared two decades ago.

No axe to grind, as I own both a ZS and a Montego turbo.

Being a bit of a purist, the last really 'new' car to appear anywhere was Isigonisis' Austin 7 and Mini ..... :)

Nothing since then is really new - merely re-arranged tin to attract the punters and part then from their mostly hard to come by.

To answer your question more seriously, apart from one or two driving by on the road, I've only had a close look at one 'new' ZS. This car, fresh off the delivery transporter and covered in the usual new car stickers, protective coverings etc, appeared to 'sit' more purposefully on the road. I believe the track has been changed to give this more 'aggressively purposeful' look. The previous ZS had 'atitude', this later version has more! The boot lid has been considerably reshaped, giving a higher line which appears to be the case with many other recently introduced 'new' cars. This boot lid is finished off with a larger than usual MG Badge - I like that large IN YOUR FACE rear badge - following drivers cannot fail to notice that the car in front now quickly disappearing into the distance .... IS an MG!

The interior has been completely changed and revised. Not sat down in one but the seats also appeared revised. By the way, three years ago, some criticised the seats in the ZS when it first appeared. I find those in my car very comfortable and have no criticism about them at all.

Of the three MG 'Z' cars, the ZS although far from a rare sight on local roads, is less numerous than the much more frequently seen ZR and ZT which I'm very pleased to report, are very popular with car buyers.

I also have a ZS180 and a Monty Turbo. The Monty is a more comfy fide as its a bit softer in the suspension. The ZS is wonderful fun to drive but shakes the brain to bits going over slowing down strips approching any roundabout. Just picked up my eyeballs from yesterday.
