MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Scraped my 180 Alloys - Any Ideas????!

Had my 180 now for 10 days and 1009 miles...

Decided today however to spin it round in the road to avoid traffic to only "Graunch" my passenger side front alloy on the rim about one quarter of its circumferance.

Although the damage is purely aesthetic and can only realy be seen by me I am well and truly F$£ked off.

Does anyone know of a kit or similar to repair alloy scratches. I have heard of a kit comprising of alloy paint and a clear laquer however a couple of local auto factors have never heard of such materials or been able point me in the right direction.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and help keep the tears back!!!!

Kev,

you have my sympathey - its so easy to scuff your alloys with ultra low profile tyres. I can't offer any advice except that if the alloy itself is damaged I guess it'll need the alloy surface re-building, and paint and laquer won't be sufficient.

Can anybody recommend a Midlands / Northern based alloy wheel refurbisher?
I also need my factory MGBGTV8 wheels repainted/re-laquered, and also the same for my 1977 Triumph Stag alloys. Posted a request for this info. on the Triumph BBS site on 10th May, but the Triumph site is very sleepy....................

Cheers

Kev, Melton's only 25 minutes drive (and a very nice Leics/Rutland twisty A road drive at that)from me.
I didn't know such a place existed in Melton which to us locals is only famous for Pork Pies and Pedigree Pet Foods - which I suppose must be the real dogs bollocks??????

Ta for the info, I'll check them out tomorrow.

If the damage is only light scratches and superficial as you say, I'd get some hammerite silver and paint over the scratches after rubbing them down smooth with some wet and dry paper. That way if you do it again .... ' appens, it wont be so upsetting as it would if you damage refurbished alloys. Going rate to professionally refurbish one alloy in Gloucester is around 30 quid.

Good idea John... No one appears to know of a kit, Hammerite Silver it is!.

many thanks

When I had my Ford Cougar I did the same thing albeit outside a pub. I got the wheel repaired to orginal spec for £25 at Gledhills of Ossett - 01924 274253. They did I brilliant job and they are relatively close to you I guess K. Heaton

Kev,

Don't bother with the Halfords kit its W$%k.

I did exactly the same thing, second day but only small scuff on edge about 1 1/2" long.

Either get it done properly or if only you notice it, then just clean it off with a bit of meths to remove any grease, and once dry seal with a touch of clear laquer. It will not look any better but it will stop the salts getting under the original finish and bubbling as it corrodes.

Cheers Mike why buy W@nk from Halfords when I can throw some over it myself!!?.

Use clear epoxy resin but be carfull not to put to much on as sanding is not an option if you want it to look perfect.
