MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - This is not an advert........

It really isn't. Our ZS180 is going. It is Trophy Blue, 4 door, proper spoiler, sun roof, 02 reg, 32k miles, good condition. It is a great car so we were shocked at the £8,500 that the Audi garage are giving us. The deal is done so this is not an advert. If anybody wants this car off us for this money we would rather let someone have it than have Audi sell it for 10k plus on their forecourt. We are in Shropshire and you have until next Friday, after which it will be gone. We can be contacted on nikanita@btopenworld.com We are not leaving MG as our F is here to stay....
Nik & Anita

Does it mean you are getting an Audi?-(the most overpriced cars on the market)
Tony

You can buy the car for £13500 new, I would say with the mileage the price is very good offer (Not bad depreciation). Too many miles for most of us.

Obviously, its going to a MG dealer as Audi wouldn't want it on the their forecourt. So the true value is £10k.

Cars don't make money - surely you know this?
George Hunt

Audi = Skoda plus price hike!!!Not worth it old chap!
Cecil Kimber

Okay people enough of this.
We are not trying to sell the car here, a deal has been done. If we were looking for a ZS180 this would be a great buy. We are not bothered about the price. We are not running down MG, we will not sell our F, ever. We would buy another MG if they had a suitable diesel for us. We just thought that someone might want to buy at a cheap price. IF not, fine.
Tony... You are not worthy of an MG bulletin board.
George. Did we expect to make money? 16.5k to 8.5k in 14 months is very bad in our opinion, but we will live with it.
Cecil.. All of your postings on the Z and F boards in my (Nik) opinion are pathetic.
We will miss the ZS like crazy. But on 30k miles per year an average of 27mpg is too expensive for us.
Nik & Anita

You may think I am pathetic but you still want to purchase a Skoda with an over-priced badge and I know what I think of that!
Cecil Kimber

Why don't you go for a nice nearly-new ZT 135 diesel?
Trevor Hollis

If the Audi car forums my neighbour with his A6 frequents are anything to go by, you'll have a high old time discussing pensions and private healthcare!
Ace

Nik and Anita,
Thanks for posting this, some people want to pick holes in everything but in my opinion it's not such a bad idea. A mate of mine had a chance to buy a ZS180 hatch from some bloke he knew that had one as a company car, he was changing it in and had the chance to buy it from the company. My mate then bought it from the company for silly money, he got a bargain, some trade company did'nt sell it on for 3k more and everyones happy!
Once again thanks for the post and ignore people who wanna slag you, your new car or your ideas off.

Hi guys

sorry to see the zs go on running cost grounds - yes i agree I have just covered 10.5K in 8 weeks the answer is not to change car just change fuel, go gas no performance loss and about 55 - 60 mpg cost comparison better than the derv i feel

hope the new car is good i love my MG but i would'nt say no to an audi either

regards

After all of these exchanges, has anyone an idea of what exactly N&A are buying as a replacement?
Alex

A4 TDI 130 SE, with a fridge in the glove box. Went to look for a used one, but this was a cancelled order and it comes at the right money.
Alex, Dave, Steve and Trevor. Good stuff lads.
Thought briefly about LPG, just a few to many horror stories to follow it through.
I (Nik) would have bought a ZT diesel. Anita thinks it is too big. I requested a test drive 6 weeks ago and we have not yet been contacted by the dealer. I was hoping that she would have loved it.
Ace, we check out the MG BBS because we love MG cars. Audi will be just an A to B car, not an interest. Fun motoring will be in the MGF.
As soon as MGR produce a suitable car we will be some of the first owners.
By the way, this was our 2nd ZS180, our first was one of the original dealer demo's. It was by a mile quicker than the 2nd one.
Nik & Anita

I'm sorry but your posts are confusing. You like MG on the one hand and buy an Audi on the other.

BTW: If you paid £1.6 for your ZS you must be rather gullible.
George Hunt

George, in the last 4 years we have bought 4 new MG cars. At the moment they do not have a car that suits our needs.
I like to meet people face to face when they start to throw insults around. I started this thread in good faith to see if anybody wanted our car at the trade price. I was not out to make a single penny, just maybe help someone to get a better MG than 8.5k would normally get.
By the way, I like TVR's best but I buy MG's and an Audi. What is the problem with that?
Nik & Anita

Nik, Anita - Dont take too much notice of the remarks made.

You buy what suits you and is within your budget, I too am an MG fan and would love to buy an MGZT-T but they are way outside what I can justify so I have bought a Peugeot 406 Estate instead - a 2.2 diesel by the way.

Does that make us some sort of strange 'aliens' that we find a make other than MG will serve our needs?

Good luck with the Audi.

Nik,

Remember that your purchase was at retail when car prices were still being held up. You are now being given the trade price at a time when the actual new retail is effectively lowwer than it was when you bought the car. Under these circumstances such a drop would occur with virtually any car. Incidentally a trade in of 8k was mentioned for mine a few weeks ago, 2001 saloon (51) with 26k miles.

Rog
Roger Parker

Peugeot 406 Estate and Audi's. Please people don't pretend to support MG and then buy these foreign cars.

As Rog mentions £8.5k for a car that retails for £13.5k now is a good price.

May I remind you that's the price you pay for car ownership. Your Audi rubbish will also depreciate by the same percentage if not more.

Plus, if you post such topics on an open discussion board - you invite such critiscm.

Interesting.

Just done the rounds looking at bigger cars.
Seriously test drove Audi's (A4 3.0 quatro avant), Alphas (156 2.0 veloce sportwagon), BMWs (325 sport touring) and MGZT-T 190. MG new. All others 2nd hand.
Both my wife and I expected to find the ZTT the biggest of all... but it fifn't feel taht way!! It was a fabulous drive and in our opinion the best handling car out of all of them.

After much thought we decided on a ZTT in the end.
Not quite got the power compared to others but it was the best overall package. Not bad considering it was up against cars that are around £30k new!!

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's a shame you didn't test drive it.

A4 is a good car but we found it rather 'remote' and kinda fly by wire. Also know of some horror stories from our local Audi.

I guess it's whatever floats your boat. Enjoy the Audi and take a collective "thanks" for trying to do someone a favour with your old ZS. :-)
Bob

Also worth remembering, if a part exchange was involved with the deal, then usually the dealer will use the Full List price for the new car and calculate the p/x valuation against that. That way most deals mean the customers lose on both swings and roundabouts. Had no part exchange been involved a discounted price would show different levels of depreciation.

Earlier this year I bought a new ZS. Without a part exchange ( I never ever p/x now ) I obtained a decent discount WELL BELOW full list price, which with all the various extras discounted too soon mounted up to a considerable saving.

The last time I part exchanged a car against a new one was back in the 1970s. I got a good deal but on reflection, had I sold my own car privately and obtained a discount on the new car I'd have been much better off.

If any car buyer were to systematically and accurately record all their motoring costs, the real total would come as a shock. New cars cost big time .... end of story. Believe all that "HIGH RESIDUALS" motor-trade speak if you like.... include me out ... it's another tool car manufacturers and dealers use in Good Old Treasure Island UK to get higher prices for their products often built and indeed sold more cheaply elsewhere..

If I'm wrong, why else do so many UK car buyers try to source their cars from outside the UK now? AND, more to the point, manufacturers selling here use various ploys to make it difficult to do so?

John McFeely

George Hunt - I do support MG and as I said I would have bought the TT had it been about 10K cheaper BUT it wasn't so the only alternative was a foreign built car, sad but unfortunately true.

Roger.
Only just noticed your posting. I am not complaining about the 8.5k. I just thought it might be a good buy at that for someone. Definately not complaining about the ZS either, I know that always in the future we will talk about the way it drove, especially around corners. I will get over to Fazely for those tyres in the next week or two.
Nik & Anita

N and A made a good point earlier:until the arrival of the 60/45 series,MGR don't have a modern, medium sized car to offer which is competitive with the Audis etc.
Hence the urgency of getting this range to the market as the highest priority.
andy

N + A,

Good luck with the new car.

I hope you guys enjoy your Audi but I am really sorry that for me you have made a really bad choice.
With 25% off on Brand New ZT and ZS at present the Audi comes nowhere near my radar as a suitable car.
Hubby and I had one and when we sold it the mileage was well below average for 2 reasons...firstly it was not nice to drive and secondly the Audi garage was continually looking after it...or rather bits of it as the engine fell apart after just 5 months and went from bad to worst to a bl**dy nightmare!
Enjoy but make sure you enrol with the AA or RAC, you will get to know your local patrolmen intimately.
Nikki Henderson

We will take it that nobody wants the ZS then...
We are never going to leave MG as the MGF is brilliant.
We were hoping that the replacement ZS would have been close by now but we can't wait another 2 years.
Great to see that the Audi is going to be reliable then.
Why has nobody picked up that I started the 'Familiariy....' thread and criticised me for it? I stand by what I was saying, the ZS is brilliant.
By the way, LloydsTSB are paying for the overpriced Audi, so I may not be so stupid.
Nik & Anita

Too expensive - too many miles. I thought it wasn't an advert! :-)

Would rather pay £10k and get a newer model. Enjoy your VAG machine.
George Hunt

Just a little update. We have now the A4, which is very good. The ZS which was 'too expensive, too many miles etc, is now on a dealers forecourt at £10,495. I genuinely tried to do somebody a favour as it was a great car. If I wanted to buy a ZS180 tomorrow I could not get a 02 reg for 8.5k. This BBS really does not do much to promote MG friendship. The constant criticism must prevent people from posting.
Good luck to you all with your Z cars, we miss ours already. As we visit the F board daily we will be looking in to see how things are going.
Nik & Anita

I know it won't sell for that price. Glad you like your Audi, now go and talk to the Audi folk.
George Hunt

Good stuff George the expert, It already did, 10k. I will talk with knowledgeable F folk now. Not fools like you.
Nik & Anita

You are the fool!
George Hunt

I know your brother, Mike!
Patrick

George, get a life, why are you so negative?
Andrew

Even I'm not as negative as George.

I guess he has a chip on his shoulder.
