MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Tyre choice

Hi,

My ZS180 came fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport as factory standard. I notice that other Z cars are fitted with Pirelli PZero's.

I had a look around and have seen good reviews for
Dunlop SP9000's.

They all seem v similar in price. With the reviews I have read I reckon the top 3 stack up in the following order.

1 Dunlop SP9000
2 Pirelli PZero
3 Michelin Pilot Sport

What do you think?

Only got experience of the Michelins (fitted to my ZS) but have heard others say that the Michelins are better than the Pirellis in the wet.

How many miles have you got out of the Mich's, I've noticed that the inside tread has started to wear after about 3K, and I try very hard not to spin them out.

No signs of any undue wear with 6k miles from new. The car has been driven hard at times, but mainly used locally.

Hi,
I'm just under 7K, since October though I reckon I could have halved that had the car not been so much fun too drive.

I estimate that the two fronts have got around 2-3K left in them and are looking a little ropey. The inside tread is showing much greater signs of wear though previous postings have put this effect down to negative camber on the wheels which increases the handling. That's all right by me.

This weekend just gone I put a two inch screw through the driver side rear. I took it down to quick fit and they fixed it for me there and then for a fiver. Whilst I was there I asked the guy what his opinion was regarding Michelin vs Pirelli.

He was very much in favour of the Michelins saying that they give far better wear. He also criticised the wet weather performance of the Pirelli's. Therefore when the time comes I'll put the two rears on the front and buy two new Michelins for the rear. (I think)
