MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - TYRES FOR ZT

Time for new tyres for my ZT 160. Any ideas welcome - Thanks.

Michelin Pilots. They won't be the cheapest but in my opinion they work really well on the ZT, I had my 190 running on them and that was a daily driver plus a track day car and in both situations they performed really well. Stay away from Continentals, they tended to delaminate on early cars, MGR even stopped using them for this reason which i guess they've sorted that now but I saw a fairly new set on a 180 a couple of months ago and the inner sidewalls were splitting.

depends on wheel diameter!
if they are 18" I would recommend that you go from teh standard 225 to 245/40 R18 profile, the test guys at MGR did and so did I

Cheaper and more road contact
Neil

if you chance only 2 tyres should you put the 245s on the front or back?
william

I did works brilliantly!

Neil

but would you put them on the front or the back?
william

Skinny 225s on the front
Fatter 245s on the rear

Neil

Keep em standard, I say!
A know it all.

245s cheaper and better at rear than standard 225s
Neil

Has anyone had a problem with uneven wear on the rear.
My first set of Michelins lasted 20,000 miles but the outer third of the tread was completely worn away and the inner third virtually like new.

I replaced them with Bridgestones, had a four wheel alignment check by MG- Rover dealer and 14,000 miles later the rears are looking like they have only a couple of thousand left in them. Once again the inner third is like new.

It's not my driving style. I usually get 50,000 from a set of rear tyres. Any ideas anyone?

My factory fitted Continental rears lasted 9,000 miles
Neil

Neil,

9,000 miles would be OK for rear wheel drive but for fwd it would be pathetic, especially when replacements cost £300 a pair.

I was hoping someone would tell me my suspension is derranged. I would expect this kind of wear pattern if it was a Triumph Spitfire.

when the time came for new on my zt 190 i replaced michelin with continental 18" 225 front and rear and so far have no problems i would like new alloys does anyone have sugestions for dealers that dont charge stupid prices.
