Well there looks like there will be some sort of a future for the Brand. what it actually means in terms of product we will have to wait and see.

The future product of course is inseperable from the plans of these bidders, unless of course they are asset strippers.

SAIC have the designs of the cars, but which of these are still viable/profitable cars to make?

I would think that the TF is the most likely survivor of all this followed by the ZT.
ZS and ZRs might be regarded as not worth the trouble but a cheap and zippy ZR could still sell well and perhaps at a profit. Remember those threads on the prospect of a stripped out no frills ZR Rallye with the 1.4 K series engine and a full bag of components from the sportier ZRs. Made in China this could be a winner.

I would suspect that the Rover brand is pretty much dead unless it's for the Chinese market, but even then not much cop or likely as BMW still own that brand and just licensed it to MGR.

At a meeting with a very experienced team of strategists last night we all pretty much agreed the
demise 0f MGR was pretty much entirely down to the incompetence of the directors!

From what I've read on the various forums of guys who've visited the various former MG Rover suppliers, it looks neigh-on impossible to restart production of the ZR/ZS and the concomitant Rover models: in a large number of cases the suppliers have already pulled out the production lines that served these models.

To restart production of the ZR (which I agree is a corking little car, and was probably quite profitable) would require a massive amount of investment to re-instigate parts supply etc.

At the end of the day, it would probably be better to start with a completely new car (or at least one that appears completely new).

What ever of the options win out, I suspect that Longbridge production is, at least in the short term, going to be R75/ZT and TF and perhaps SV, only.
