MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Wither the V8s ?

Neither hide nor hair the V8 ZTs, even though it was supposed to be out by now.

I strongly suspect this project has been canned.
Jason Bell

One contributor said that they had been delayed till May
If so,the next few months will be a very bare period for MGR with no big publicity & continually declining sales.
Tony

Yup - delayed. Frustrating, but better a properly developed product than a half-baked concept that the customers have to develop themselves. At least MGR appear to have learnt from the mistakes of the past.
Rob Bell

If you check out the official MGR web site you will find full details there.

There's an article in this weeks Autocar about the V8 ZT's...

"MG's V8 road car will have 'just' 385bhp but that should still be enough to turn the 4.6 litre, rear drive ZT into a monster performer. There will be two versions: circa £30k ZT260 in May, and 385 version in July, along with the SV coupe."

So the project is still going ahead.

Richard.

Spring/summer 2003 - delays held them over from this autumn - but should be well worth the wait ....
Ann MG Writer

All this sounds understandable,
-hopefully MGR will manage to survive till the time of the launch!
Dave

An insider on another MGR programme who shall have to remain nameless said to me of the ZT V8 programme 'the car isn't quite oven-ready yet ... oh deary me, did I say "oven" ready?'
Ann MG Writer

The Directors of MGR will have their V8's very soon for evaluation purposes...
wtf?

Speaking as a Lotus Elise driver snooping this BBS, a V8 ZT would tempt me their way. Loved the 190ZT on a test drive.
Paul

Yes 'wtf' (wash your mouth out with soap, naughty boy!) and the wait will be worthwhile. But the fact remains that the programme is several months late.
Ann MG Writer

Do the Directors really need as much as 8 months to
"evaluate" the V8s?
How can the more recent SV be launched before the V8s,bearing in mind the relative sales/impact of the
two types?
andrew

Any latest news?
Has anyone seen one of these cars on the road?
We are waiting with open cheque books!
(Some less committed to MGR will go elsewhere eg for the forthcoming 6 series BMW)
Tony

There is one positive thing about the delay - 2003 has been forcast to be a hard year for MGR whilst the company struggles to bring the new 45 out on time for 2004 - hence few new products to bring the company headlines and column-inches in the world press. But with the V8s delayed into this year, at least there should be some very exciting model action to capture the automotive journalists' attention during 2003 after all!
Rob Bell

yes Rob,but:
Cars we can't afford....... like the SV
Cars we probably don't want....like the Tata 15
Hence the importance of the New ZTs,and perhaps a ZS 160 Turbo for us poorer ones !
andrew

The delay is a year and several months.........
