MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - X-Power

Having just seen the latest installment of the British touring Cars from Silverstone after the footy on ITV.

Does anyone know if the touring car strip as used by the X-Power MG team is available to us non racing driver mortals...

preferably in yellow with black writing...

Davey Hird

Davey boy...seem to remember someone saying it wasn't available.

However, over on the NMGO website or Xpower-MG.com you can see the results of my labours in designing my own NMGO sunstrip. It'd be real easy to do an Xpower type one.

Yes,we would all like to have a strip - or at least a sticker for the rear window
alex

A problem occurs with the licencing of the MG logo - so getting them made individually shouldn't be a problem, but if you were to make a large batch of them and sold them on, MGR's copyright lawyers would take a particularly dim view. :o(

Pitty, because there is clearly a market for this kind of product.

Perhaps you could lobby the X-Power guys to add some stickers and sun strips to their range of merchandising?
Rob Bell

Glad i aint the only 1 whos after a set of x-power sun strips.maybe if enuff of us mentioned it to x-power ,they might put a few into production. It wouldnt cost em a fortune to put a few on sale.

The dealers do have the decals, for temporary use on demo cars. BUT MG Rover have been asked ,and they will not sell the decal sets. Like almost all manufacturers they wish to tightly control the marketing images and how they are presented...
David

I agree with most of the views on MG decals and use of logos on the above thread.

However, MGR are very protective of their Logos and using them on mechandise to make money will result in litigation. They are currently in the process of taking individuals to court on this matter.

Furthermore, the use of MG logos on unlicenced websites also contravenes licenceing rules. Hence the lack of MGR style Logos of any kind on my site:

Of course, the manufacturer has every right to excise control over its logos, and do with them as it sees fit, and to suit it's marketing needs.

I think what people here would say is that they are enthusiasts - they are the people who the marque appeal to, and ultimately encourage others to join in and buy MGR products. They are likely to respect the marque values, so why not let them use corporate approved decals? There is clearly money to be made for MGR here, as from what I can gather, there is substantial pent up demand of X-Power branded decals and other types of regalia (the current excellent range accepted).

There is no harm in letting the boys at Longbridge know that there are huge fans of their current products out there, and that they are also interested in obtaining items like sun strips (okay, not my cup of tea) and other branded decals.

Anyone know of a suitable e-mail address to petition to?
Rob Bell

Don't you think that the dealers/businesses/dodgy parts makers have also thought of saying 'honest guv, we're just enthusiasts'....?

I think you've misunderstood what I am saying, Ann. I am not suggesting that enthusiasts should print decals and then distribute them for themselves - I am saying that enthusiasts would not misrepresent the marque if MGR were to decide to produce their own decals for public consumption.

But that [the release of X-Power logos] is not something for me to decide. That's the job for the good folks at X-Power. If they were fully aware of the market for these kind of items, and chose not to supply it, well, that's their decision. But how can they know or be sure that there is a market? By us letting them know.

Over to you guys.

There is a danger I suppose (?) that if a gang of reversed baseball cap wearing types were out and about displaying X-Power logos on the windscreen, it might send the wrong message to potential buyers?

Not all buyers/drivers of Zs will have respect for fellow enthusiast and the MG marque.

I think in general though, Modern MGs and their owners will never be stereo typed in quite the same way as F**D RS Turbo owners from Essex!

(should I take cover?)

Or Honda Civic drivers in da 'pool.......

I hear what you are saying Kelvin - and I am sure that this is David's point, and to an extent I do agree.

But we ARE talking X-Power here.

These are the guys who have supplied the magazine, with a surprisingly similar name, with their product to road test.

So for the fun of it, let's play devil's advocate: isn't this group of individuals part of the demographic that Zed car range is aimed to appeal to? These are 'motors with street cred'. Showy cars to impress your mates. BTCC race appeal. The British version of the 'Rice Rocket'

I can understand that MGR wish to tred a fine line here - but who are they aiming their cars at? I guess, with a car range that is so extensive - from the cheap n' cheerful ZR104 to the ZT190 and beyond - more than one group of consumers: groups of consumers that may not be mutually inclusive.

Hmm, there's more to marketing MG X-Power than first appears isn't there?

IMO there IS a common thread to everyone who wants an X-Power MG vehicle - motorsports. And as decals shout this connection, why not do them?

Hasn't done Subaru or Mitsubishi any harm has it...
Rob Bell

I broadly agree Rob - I would very much like a set of the huge decals on the Monty, which after all is only used for motorsports nowadays. Reasonable publicity I would have thought, given the audience of many other non-MG competitors at the events in the MGCC series. But even so, I hazard a guess that they may well deem it an unsuitable application...
