MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Z sales in France

17 ZS have been sold in France in october. < !
Arnaud

OH SH*T!
MEGA

17 very happy frenchmen, then.
Dave

And lots of very unhappy workers/mangerment at Longbrigde. Just hope for better results after xmas. (Fingers crossed)
MEGA

Well done Mega. Lets hope that the dealerships are soon restructured and some heavy marketing gets underway over the channel. It is, after all, early days.
Wonder what the figs. for the rest of the Z's are?
Dave

Not going to "Bottle it " yet Dave, I think the lanch of the V8 s next year is going to give MGR one hell of a boost!
Mega

Other Zs are not available yet but will be soon.

About heavy marketing, what is striking me the most is that at a time when new cars are coming out, the official french MG/Rover web site is closed since 2 months...
Arnaud

Did you really mean October Arnaud? (or November when I first saw them in the showrooms). We agree that the French customers are being rather reluctant even if dealers like the road performance of the cars. Also the need in this market of a 130+ HP diesel as I mentionned on the XT 385 and MG Sales figures threads (and which is now the subject of its own thread)
andrew

Just made the same point about diesels Andy. But be careful "DAVE" will think you a "Tosser" for saying so.
Mega

17 MG-ZSs sold in France in Octobre. I do hope that figure is accurate when you consider our neighbours across La Manche's admirable penchant for buying their own and the scarcity of Z-cars at that time.

Confirmation anyone?
John McFeely

It is accurate: it comes from http://www.autoactu.com/tab_stat.php3?p1=1&p2=vehicules&p6=3&p7=desc&altern=oui

Whilst these 17 ZS were sold, there was close to 20000 206s, 19000 Clios and 13000 Scenics all new on the road...

The French roads now make a boring sight!
Ronan

<there was close to 20000 206s, 19000 Clios and 13000 Scenics all new on the road...>
i love the french, individuals right down to the last 17
:o)

kev

Like I said : << admirable penchant for buying their own >>

Anyone know how many so called British assembled French marque models (406 etc?) were sold in France?
John McFeely

Ronan,

Thanks for that URL

Makes very interesting reading. Anyone know if we have a similar site(s) here for UK car sales ?
John McFeely

John,
Since they stopped making proper cars there, the Ryton plant has only churned out the 309, 405, (Pre 94) 306,(Pre 97) and latterly the 206.
The 406 is, and has always, been from Peugeot's Mulhouse plant, east of Paris. The last 405's went here to clear the tracks at Cov. for the 306.
Dave

I knew this thread would leads to french criticism ;).
Against these beliefs there are facts :
Around 60% of the first hand cars sold in France are French. Compared to other countries having a large car industry, this figure is normal. The french car makers dealer network is larger in France than in everywhere else and the cars are designed primarily for the french market. If a french “prefers” to buy french, this criteria is minimum when buying a car compared to others like bodystyle, consumption, comfort, performance…

Plus also the fact that French WANT to buy French and will not ever consider Japenese or otherwise...

you should have heard the amount of comments I had when I bought my Micra.
