MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZR 180 V6 ?

What is the likelihood of MG Rover sticking the KV6 engine in the ZR? Would make a nice top of the range "Extreme" version to take on the likes of the Honda Civc Type R.

Read the other posts or read a newspaper...MGR are going under! I don't think 25 is at the top of there list of things right now!

You are a FOOL!
George Hunt

Addendum

Sorry, A "DANGEROUS FOOL", speaking out with little or no knowledge - Mega. MGR targets are being met - PERIOD!

A V6 R26/ZR unlikely - on an engineering point of view. Very doubtful sales as well.

I heard from a source last week that this had already been done...whether this was done by MGR themselves or an enthusiast we don't know about is unclear.
Dave

A couple of very interesting ZR developments are pending under the MG Sport and Racing banner.

Rog
Roger Parker

It has been talked about on the rover200 site.

I think most people thought the engine would be either to large for the mounts or a bit on the heavy side.

That said there are a few 2.0 Turbo conversions of both the mk3 200 and 25 knocking about.

As for MGR going, I've seen more ZR's around here than I can think of, they are becoming the Saxo alternative, but thats good ain' it?

Look Rog
With all due respect!
We have asked about this not a week ago, nothing happening much was the replie. Now you have "New information"......Lets have it......Before i go to the FORD dealership!
Mega.
Mega

Please go to a FORD dealership. You as a customer MGR can do well without.
Rock & A Hardplace

Don't just stop at going to a Ford dealer.
Start posting on the Ford Focus Owners Club bbs as well- careful though you need to register and its got moderaters to stop unwanted posters.
While you are there you can read all the posts about the poor quality and performance of fords. Makes MGs look very reliable.
Norman

Why should Roger Parker break any confidences ahead of embargoes just to satiate your desires, Master Mega? And whilst there is a school of thought that MGR could have handled its present 'crisis' better, that hardly equates to 'going under'...
Ann MG Writer who will remain anonymous

He can sort of HINT! you know tell us if the main problems have been sorted:) or not:(

God this is a hopless car company!
Mega.
Mega

By hopless company I asume that you are refering to Ford. The latest Jag doesnt deserve the name. Its a cheap, poorly performing Mondeo. Nothing more
Norman

They are going to put the V6 in in the back!! Its the ZRV6T, rear wheel drive whith a turbo charged KV6.

Its very top secret so dont tell anyone will you!

A spy!

'a hopless car company' - small beer, then? ;)
Ann Observer

> They are going to put the V6 in in the back!! <

U-huh, is there a Lotus connection? After they developed that rear engined thingy for Renault I mean..
Howard

>>They are going to put the V6 in in the back!! Its the ZRV6T, rear wheel drive whith a turbo charged KV6. <<

Wouldn't that melt the ice cream in the shopping bags? ;o)

I'll get my coat...

More seriously, I'd seriously LOVE to see such a machine made. It wouldn't need to be a comercial success- just building such a radically engineered road rocket will seriously emphasise the corporate image- and what price can anyone put on that?
Rob Bell

Rob,

Yes an excellent flag waving attention getter.

However, a ZR 180 V6. Good Grief! Considering the performance of the ZS 180, it would be a slight case of performance overkill would it not? After all, the ZR160 is a bit nippy anyway. But a V6 ZR, I bet it would set the juices running of the "spit or swallow" Brit car mags and their like so avidly read by .... oh yeah, I saw one once ..... :)
John McFeely

Bet it would be much much cheaper than the froggie counterpart too.
David Harasym

More likely in the near term is a 1.8 ZR and ZS with forced induction to match the TF...
Ann MG Writer who shall not be named

Ann, we have been hearing this sort things since last summer! Without getting you to "Spill the beans" is this likely in the next 8 weeks or so?

Don't forget that the ST170 will be here or the Vauxhall Astra Turbo! mmmmmmmmmm.
Mega

Mmmmmm
Dont comment on vauxhall or Ford Mega, Jaguar cant build an F1 car and Vauxhall cant produce a sports car that can sell!!!!
3000 built---450 sold Hmmmmmm...
Havent MGR sold more cars in one month than Vauxhall have of the 220 in 2 years???
Simon
S Harris

1.8 ZR? but whyyyyyy?

ZR 160? 1.8 VVC.
David Harasym

The gen on 1.8 super/turbo came from a dealer...
Ann MG Writer who shall not be named

correct me if i'm wrong but a turbo/supercharge 1.8 would equal the power of a 2.7 so there wouldn't be much point putting it in a ZS ?
Peter Hitchens

Very good point about JAG F1, the TWR team using the same motor was upto 1.5 secs a lap faster!
The Vx220 has the same probs as the Elise, its a track day car.

I hear from Autoexpress that Vauxhall is about to lose the Astra Turbo! I don't know if its a Turbo 2.2 Alu engine or the older cast iron Block.

Yes we keep hearing about a Turbo/supercharged motor from MGR but WHEN?
Mega.
Mega

Tomorrow morning, about 8:30, soon enough for you?
Wynne Dupp

>>correct me if i'm wrong but a turbo/supercharge 1.8 would equal the power of a 2.7 so there wouldn't be much point putting it in a ZS ? <<

Sounds about right to me Peter. The advantage though will be to company car buyers and those concerned with the tax group- the supercharged four will be more fuel efficient than the six, and produce less CO2 as a result... QED- cheaper to run and tax = more sales. :o)

Also of great interest to MGF/TF owners- as this will probably be a prelude to the supercharged engine finding its way into the TF (after years of discussions following the Geneva Supersports concepts)
Rob Bell

Yes Rob, got it in one... :)

Is this a wind-up Mr.WynneDupp?
What about Vanden Plas?
