MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZR's Down Under - How Many?

Having purchased one of the last ZR's from a local dealer and with some 185 MG/Rover cars going to Auction in Australia on the 13th June; How many ZR's have made the sea change down under?

The dealer thought that the number was somewhere between 40 and 60.

The VIN number is SARRFLNME5D800149, what number did they start at - surely they didn't make 800,000 cars.

Can anyone explain the other letters/numbers?

Thanks
Tony Slattery

Is there a commission number? There is sticker on lower part of the door pillar! This I believe is a clearer indiaction of numbers vehicles produced

The VIN number or commission number I doubt though will reveal which car of the 40-60 it is unless some unique numbering system exists for the aussie exports

Kelvin

The sticker on the lower part of the drivers side piller :- MG ZR 1.8K 160PS ZR160

The sticker on the passenger piller has the vin number and date of manufacture (7 December 2004).

No clues here unless there is a code.

I'm not interested in where in the order the car is in Australia, just the total number imported (3 door and 5 door) and the toal number of ZR's made for all markets. Where else in the world were ZR's exported?. The ZR was only released on the Australian market in February, so there has only been 1 shipment as far as I am aware (and most are up for auction on 13th June).

Where else in the world were ZR's exported?.

South Africa offered the ZR and ZT, as well as the TF, but not the ZS. Mexico had the TF but not sure about ZR/ZS/ZT.

Some European countries had the MG Rover range. I think Spain might have been the biggest market outside the UK.

New Zealand got the ZR 120 (3 & 5 door), ZR 160 (3 & 5 door), ZS 180, ZT 180, ZT-T 180, TF 120, TF 135 and TF 160 models.

Hi Tony,
The Australian distributer told me there are only 37 ZRs in the country.
There were another 30 sitting on the docks waiting for a ship when the company fell over.
There are 5 cars to be sold as part of the liquidation auction of 183 MGs and Rovers 13/6.
You have a real collectors item, look after it.

The Zed register is probably the group to answer that, or one of the ZR dedicated forums, but I suspect that your car is a facelift model (?) - in which case the sequence is likely to have started at 800,001...
Rob Bell

According to June 2005 issue of Wheels magazine (& VFACTS), there were only 11 of that 37 sold by the end of April, so if you add the five in the auction, that leaves 21 cars in the hands of dealers.

Can't be many left by now.
Tony Slattery

Tony,
The dealers only started deliveries late April, they were sold out within a couple of weeks. People were clamouring for them when the collapse was announced.
The five that are left are the ones being held by the distributor either as demonstraters or show stock.
Expect these to go for a premium price especially the one and only car in Ignition Blue.

We had ordered a Red 5-door car at the Brisbane MOtor Show in February - they did not import any of these in the first shipment of cars (Doh - Red is THE MG Colour). We were told to expect delivery around 1st May. Obviously or car was one of the 30 left on the docks in the UK, so when we heard there would be no more we settled on a 3-door instead.

We have put over 2,000 km on the clock since 8th May - lovely car for SE QLD country roads and the motorways as well. Wish I had a dollar for every head it has turned in the last month.

There to be an uction of MG's

http://www.mgcars.com.au/catalogue.pdf

The pdf catalogue has for most of the cars listed the vin numbers, this might be of interest to some people?

Cricky thats got to be rare. Did you notice a ZT260 auto. Its the first one I've come across. If you are reading this in Aus have a look at the auto got to be very unque. Two 220S and a supercharged 260. Get the feeling I'm in the wrong country.

How come they are quoting the ZT 260 as supercharged in one but not the other (surely the s/c 260 is the 385..) Also what is the supercharged 220..? V6..? Aus only..?

If someone wants me to bid on their behalf while i am here, just email me your bank account details LOL!

Yes that is the Aus only, fitted with Sprintex SuperChrger, which could well be available very soon in UK.

The Australia wide MG auction was a long drawn out affair (6pm-midnight) with incredible demand from the floor.

Most of the Rovers went cheaply, and the MG's pulled higher prices as expected.

The ZR's really held their prices, probably as the most recent model & still in demand.

By comparison the new price plus on-road costs were $30,990 for the 3 door and $32,990 for the 5 door. Leather was a $1850 option & Metalic Paint $950.

LOT Model Exterior Interior Mileage $auction
173 160 3dr Xpower Grey grey/black new $26,000
174 160 5dr Black Pearl grey/black new $29,000
175 160 5dr Xpower Grey Black Leather new $30,000
176 160 3dr Ign Blue Axis Grey 1,583km $31,000
177 160 3dr Star Silver Black Leather 298km $31,000
177A 120 3dr Tro Blue Axis Grey 14,450km $8,500
(last lot not complied for use on Aust roads)
