MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZS120 Engine Cutout

Just trundling up the A10 this morning in 4th gear doing 40mph and my ZS (51 plate) started labouring. I dropped down to 3rd and the engine nearly stalled, but then kicked in again, but the labouring got worse.

Oil light came on, and eventually she died. I started her again, and managed to get off the road.

All the time I am watching the engine temp - which was normal.

I managed to start her again, but she would not idle, nor keep her revs, and it was like she was misfiring when keeping the revs at 4000ish.

Got the AA out. They were not much good as they could not plug into the car and run a diagnostic. But got the engine running normally again (for no real reason), but while the AA was fiddling with stuff under the throttle part, she cut out again.

Got her running again and there appeared to be no problem with her, so I followed the AA to Crown Garage in Soham. My poor ZS is there now waiting to be hooked up to the computer and have a diagnostic run....

woe is me :o(

Crown Garage in Soham should get you sorted, always have my 180 serviced there, they are good!!

I also have my car serviced there, and yes, they are good and also very nice chaps.

They kindly razzed me to work in a brand new Cvic Type-R

Just sitting waiting for their call now... Not the best time of year to be spending out too much :o(

Soham done a complete diagnostic and looked through the ECU history and found nothing wrong. They also took it for a ride around the town and they said it drove like a dream, and was in fact one of the best ones they had ever driven!!!

Well, I pick her up at 17:00. Hope it was just one of those things that will never happen again...

Maybe a spot of water in fuel - condensation or something?

Interesting... With our 3 yr old ZR, similar probs - kept cutting out / wouldn't idle. This was in August - found one of the plug leads (under top engine cover) was almost melted through. Replaced them & ran fine. Suddenly happened again Thurs PM (Early December). Pulled out & 'reseated' plug leads - ran fine again. My wife went over to the Lake District (we're in the NE), & just phoned to say she's comming home courtesy of the AA... Reckon its a fuel prob - water or air.... Any ideas anybody ????

Sorry to hear about your problems. My baby has been running fine ever since my problem. <touch wood>
