MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZT on Top Gear GTI

I've just been watching TG GTI on UK Horizons and am still in shock - a positive review of the ZT.

Despite the fact that this was the UK motoring press, despite the fact that this was the BBC and despite the fact that this was a Top Gear programme the reviewer (Steve Berry) was full of praise.

The only thing that he could comment on in a negative way was that he PERSONALLY felt that the steering would have benefitted from a little more feedback.

As this programme is usually repeated I will have to watch it again as he even said that he liked the styling - both inside and out.

Somebody please tell me that this was as I thought it was - or am I hearing and seeing things.

What's your point? In the past a poor car received a poor review - as u would expect!

The ZT received a good review on merit. What else did you expect?

Happy New Year

JLD - where have you been? The Z cars have received good reviews on along. Maybe not world-beating, but good nonetheless.

I know that good cars generally get good reviews, my own interest in the Z saloons was sparked by such a review.
My main point was that following all the input ON THIS BBS about the negative attitude of Top Gear to MGR (following the feature about the MGF) it was good to see the same production team being positive about MGR as many people were trying to say that TG would 'put down' any MGR car without giving it a fair trial.

Fair comment - I know what you mean - we always used to expect the press to give MGR vehicles bad reviews. However, if you notice since the departure of *M* all reviews have been very good. It's as if the press have "left alone" MGR.

However, the ZT190 and ZS180 have had exceptional reviews which have been justifiable in my view.

Roll on the V8 launch of the ZT265 and ZT385 in 2002!

Jerry

PS. Lets just hope the internal wranglings with Lola don't lead to bad press!

Happy New Year to all on this BB!

JLD - I saw the programme you mention and I thought exactly the same - I guess as Jerry says we are used to MGR getting negative press etc....but not now!!

Roll on 2002!

Dave

Went in to the local paper shop to get a loto ticket. I spy a copy of Autocar, not due out till next week. They have just taken an ZT 190 onto there fleet.

In Blue with bi-xenon lights Looks nice, but i could not beleve that in four months of production MGR had only sold 1500!

I had hoped for a lot more than that!
Mega

If you say that now mega thats different than before when you say more ZT's are sold than Jaguars.
Rod

I picked up a ZT-T from MG Car Centre here in Holland.
I drove a couple of Rover 75s before, but this is really different. It's not like the ZR or ZS but it's still FAST !

ZR160 was my favorite, feels like it's mounted on road. If I had to buy a small car, that would be the one !

Good luck MG / Rover , keep up the good work !
