MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZT V8s in Australia

'Motor' magazine here in Australia, this months carries undisguised spy shots of the V8 ZT here in Australia during hot weather testings. Looks a mean mother, huge wheel arch flares and massive tyres. Cool.

Superb news. :-)

Bring 'em on, that's what i say.

....but they were also supposed to be under test by MGR Directors-if so,someone must have seen one leaving the offices?
Tony

.. or maybe the directors are taking a holiday in Oz.

You don't have to go as far as OZ to see a ZT-T V8. There was one in the public parking at Curbourgh on Sunday.

It was carefully parked with its rear very close to the fence. When it pulled out to go I happened to look at the badge to see if it was a 160 or a 190. To my surprise it said 260! So no supercharger on that one.

It had 2 pairs of tail pipes but otherwise it looked fairly standard.

I bet it would have got a better time than I did if it had had a go.

Thanks David,
Amazing that its taken several weeks for someone to report a sighting if they are around in the UK !

Was checking out the official www.mg-rover.com web site today and under Development Zone clicked on ZT X Power and there was a photo of a beautiful metalic blue ZT V8. If it drives as well as it photographs it will be an fantastic ride!

Is this V8 the ex-Buick V8 engine, as seen in Rovers since 1969?

Ralph

strewth where have you been Ralph? ;-) NO it's not the GM unit, it's from Ford - this was announced and talked about very widely months and months ago.
David

".....but otherwise it looked fairly standard."

Not the ones in the magazine. The wheel arches and tyres were HUGE... A lot bigger than a ZT or Rover 75 (which are also sold here). Reminded me of those super race minis.
Peter Bradnot

David, I was held prisoner in a kipper tie factory and have only recently effected an escape ;-)

I bought my ZS in October (and added 20k miles to it since then) and have only recently started visiting this board. Previously I had a MGF (160k miles when the cam belt tensioner failed) and spent all my time on the F boards.

The ex-Buick V8 is a wonderful engine (I own 3 in various cars). I assume that Ford got the engine when they bought Range Rover. If the 'new' engine is from Ford then maybe it is the same engine...

Ralph

Ralph - the new unit is an ex-Ford Mustang 4.6 litre V8 and no relation to the Range Rover ex-Buick V8.
Ann MG Writer

IIRC, MGR gained accessability to this engine when they bought out Qvale. The Qvale Mangusta uses this set up and the Mangusta platform has been extensively developed to produce the MG SV (which is built in the old Qvale factory in Modena Italy).

Therefore ZT V8 not only have the Ford V8 engine, they are also rear wheel drive. :-)

Hhmmmm, V8 MG Sweeet! Yeah baby.

Why is everyone getting so excited about V8's?

All they'll do is drink fuel like its going outta fashion!
Eric

We have to get excited about SOMETHING Eric!
Apart from the small Tata made car,
there has been/will not be, anything else in the saloon line coming out for too long.
Tony

Eric, if a V8 doesn't turn you on, you ain't no petrolhead :-(
