MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZT190+ idling

Has anyone had idling problems(at rest it pulses between 700 and 850 revs)?
Has anyone got a ZT190 !!
Mal

Hi,

Iv'e got a ZS180 (same KVG engine) and I'm experiencing exactly the same conditions. It's idling uncomfortably low. Around the lower end of what you've mentioned above.

I took it too my dealer, they said they could find nothing wrong with it, and implied this was normal behaviour.

I always feel a little uneasy in traffic and blip the throttle everynow and then to keep things ticking over and have to give it some revs to pull away or it just konks out. I'm due my first service in a couple of months so I'll mention it again then.

I have a ZT-T 190+ & no real problem with tickover variation. The speed does dip briefly as the Air Con system cuts in every so often. Are you talking about consistent pulsing or just an occasional change? If you want to prove the air-con theory press the Econ button on the heater controls, and this cancels air-con operation (listen to the disappearnce of all that fan noise at the front of the car as well!!).

No problem with idling on our new ZT-T 190+

Many thanks for the responses.

Apart from the pulsing revs during idling I've now noticed that the revs react IMMEDIATELY anytime my right foot comes to rest or comes off the excelerator i.e one second POWER then immediately NO power at all with resulting INSTANTANEOUS deceleration. I find this very disconcerting. Sadly, I'm starting to yearn for my old Ford Probe V24!!!

Any similar experiences or comments (of the helpfull kind please)?

Methinks it may be worth getting your local friendly service manager to have a quick look.

I can't relate to the start / stop power delivery you're describing from my ZT-T 190+ experiences. I consider mine to be very progressive. I wonder if the throttle cable is too tight and holding the throttle open a little to start with? If it turns out that you are particularly sensitive to ZT throttle action, you could try fitting a Rover 75 (throttle body) snail cam as they are more progressive than the ZT one.
