MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZT260 focus group

Hi all

I have contacted the MGOC concerning the setting up of a group of like minded people who own and run 260's. To talk and discuss as we are doing now but with the inclusion of owners who don't look at forums etc. This with the backing of the biggest MG owners club on the planet, with a world wide audience has got to be a go'er.

What I am asking at this stage is confirmation of an interest. You can reply against this thread. I don't think there is no other club doing this for 260's.

One of the names proposed is the title of this thread,ZT260 focus group. Another could be 'The 850 Group' (depending on how many were made), or ZTV8 Assembly, don't know just plucked them out of the air.

Please let me know your thoughts, if there is wide interest the MGOC will move it forward to the next stage.

Thanks

Tim

Good idea

Go for it!

Roger Parker has a ZT260 too as does Guy Naphine

we need to look after each other as this is a rare motor albeit made for a variety of common sources.

I also know one of the rare factory trained ZT260 mechanics, we should have him involved. All West Byfleet New Haw Based (apart from Rog)
Neil

The MGOC might be the biggest MG car club (whatever that means) but surely the MGCC is the largest.

whatever ...set it up Tim
Neil

There appears to be a Focus Group here: http://www.forums.xpowerforums.com/showthread.php?p=317896#post317896

Still a good idea though!

The thread on Steve Child's site and this one appear to have been started by the same person (same Christian name and same wording.....)
PA Beet

Tim ...do it !
and give it a daft name
Neil

Yep its me on four different sites. This is to get the biggest coverage of 260 owners as possible.

I'm going to wait a while longer to get as many people as poss.

Its not just me, both Roger Parker and Richard Monk have has an input.

Looking at about 20 yes's so far. If you are a 260 or R75V8 owener and have not voiced your opinion yet please do. It will be good to be able to move forward on this.

These are the names being banded around. Any comments from you V8 owners would be good.

260 Focus Group
The 883 club
V8 other cars but mgrs
ZT - V8 - R75 Appreciation Society
ZT – V8 – R75 club
The Xteen group

Not too keen on number 3 would not convey the right view. If you have any alternatives please let me know.

Thanks

1. Sounds like a Ford Focus club
2. Looks good, is 883 the eventual number?
3. Naaa
4. Self preservation society
5. too many letters
6. sounds like some sort of prepubescent girls club!

Neil

So what's happening Tim?

Neil

Hello Neil

Running a poll at the moment to see if we are going to include R75V8's within the group. Running at 95% in favour at the moment.

Also will be asking all you 260 owners shortly on the name. Another one to add to the list above is the 'Two-Sixty Group' which seems to be the one again at the moment, however will put it to the vote at the weekend with a closing of the poll on the 21st Nov. I'm going to copy the poll over to this site, in text form.

Have a look on the x power forum, under ZT V8.

Update

So the way the polls are going, we are happy to have a joint 260/R75v8 group with the potential of being called the TWO-SIXTY's. This is good.

Talking to the MGOC they do not have a problem with the 'focus group' being dropped but would be happier if the word 'club' was dropped as this would give the impression of a club within a club. This I do not think is a problem as The TWO SIXTY'S does sound and look okay.

They are also looking at people wishing to be part of the TWO SIXTY's to be members of the Owners Club. This I think I have mentioned before and from the comments back from current non members is not an issue. I think the current annual subscription is £30, plus a once only joining fee of £5. For this you get free tech advice, badges, spare parts shop, organised events, monthly magazine (which is a good read. I do look forward to it each month) and knowing you are part of a 50,000+ strong club.

Also following on from Jerry Flint's kind offer of a website for the 260/R75v8, the MGOC are quite happy that they sit 'hand-in-hand'. This is the techy bit but I assume we can provide a site with direct links to Jerry's proposed site and the MGOC. Also would need to make sure the site has MGOC logo's all over it, and it was clear that the TWO-SIXTY's are part of the MGOC (like a regional group, you'll know what I mean if you are already a member).

I have set the 21st as the date at which time I shall put everything down in black and white for you to comment on. I'll make it a new thread.

The likely start date should be early in the new year.

With Roger Parker owning a ZT260, too, I reckon you have a fantastic technical coordinator in the form of the MGOC. His articles in Enjoying MG have always been extremely professional, and written on the basis of getting his hands dirty in the research.
Martin ZT

Given the vapourisation of MGR AND the rarety or the V8 AND Roger's ownership and hands on practicality and expertise. It's a no brainer!

Assume the car is an instant classic, like a modern day Jensen Interceptor. forget buying expensive warranties and go for the 260 register. If we stick together we'll make sure that our ownership experience is ok and that the cars are reliable and survive!

Neil

So the cunning plan is to use this BBS and others to attempt to recruit 20 odd people to establish yet another separate BBS in praise of one of MG’s least successful post War cars, that in truth, is merely a badge engineered Rover 75? How much further can this Balkanisation of the MG community go?

MG the marque of fragmentation anyone?
PA Beet

Bit extreme PAB, I think you will find that we are part of a large community of MG lover's, but with all car types there are always going to be specific tech issues etc. No the intention is not to have a seperate BBS. Xpower, Brit-cars, MGOC and MG Enthusiasts' are all good with no further expansion.

There were about 883/4 V8's, either the ZT or R75. Being affiliated to the MGOC will help the exposure, hopefully be more than 20.

Results

Okay Polls closed. Result is not a surprise if you have been following the threads and posts.

1. A whopping 96% said yes to including R75V8, of this 56% asked for "not in the title".

2. 65%ish went for the Two Sixty's as a name. First place was wide enough from second to not be concerned about people who do not have either vehicle.

What I need now is the detail below in the order it is written to pass onto Roger Parker and his team to process. Roger has asked that I co-ordinate and send the information on is one lump as he has a few people off work at the moment.

A. Your full name
B. Your e-mail address in which you wish to be contacted by MGOC.
C. Your MGOC membership number if you have one. If not, confirmation your intent on wishing to join.
D. What do you own. ZT260 or Rover 75 V8, & ZT/ZTT/Saloon/Tourer
E. Reg number
F. Your complete Vin number
G. Colour. Full colour name, mine is starlight silver.
H. Confirmation of left or right hand drive
J. Trim level, ie standard or SE
K. Also what options do you have above standard and SE trim. ie monogram etc
L. What enhancements do you have ie supercharger
M. Who owned the car before you. ie mine was pre-registered by MGR with one mile on the clock. Some of you know your car was an MGR press car.
N. Any history you may have of the car

If you screen dump this post it will help you to list your answers. (Have Word open and in the background, press Ctrl + print scrn together. Go into Word and click on paste)

Can you send your responses to mg.zt260@ntlworld.com and I will send on to Roger.

I have been asked to point out that the information you supply will not be passed onto any third party but will be used by the MGOC for internal use and to better know the TWO SIXTY base. The statistical results maybe used at the discretion of the MGOC.

Sorry for the number of questions, but they will help us all. If you have any questions do ask.

Thanks

Tim
