MG MGA - 1600 Side Windows

Does anyone know of a source for the fabric that covers the side windows on a 1600. I am hoping to find a kit to replace the rotted fabric on the frames. I do not have access to an industrial sewing machine to make my own.

1600 frames should be straight aluminium, not covered

Why would they be aluminium? I thought that was just for the hardtops, my 1600 had normal steel frames covered in material Dominic, were they from a 1500?

I believe that original 1600 side screens were fabric covered and that the aluminum side screens were originally made for use with a hard top. See here http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/top/top110.htm.

According to Clausager, 1600's had sidescreens covered with the same material as the hood material. Aluminium sliding sidescreens were available as an optional extra, but always supplied if the hardtop was fitted.

My friend's original 1961 1600 MkII has fabric covered ones.Sorry Jim - No idea where to get the material to renew them though but Moss have a good repro.
Cam Cunningham

Yes, all standard issue 1600 frames were fabric covered.

Talking to a guy from Yorkshire at the Dalemain Show, he had bought a kit to do his (looked absolutely like new). He bought the kit from a trim supplier in Manchester, although I cannot remember the name. The kit consisted of a pre-sewn "envelope" that you put the frame in before trimming and gluing the pvc into the U-section. I think he said that it also included the U section internal felt channel too. (Although that and all the rest of the side curtain parts are available from Todd Clark.

I have a pretty poor memory (obviously) as I cannot remember the guys name either. I can remember that he had brought to show his original UK Old English White 1500 rodster with red interior built between May and August 1956! that he had fully restored himself to concours.

Jsut some carification to the side windows.
1500 cars had the "Flip up style"
1600 and MkIIs had the "slide style"
All of the above were fabric covered.
The alluminum frames were for the factory hard tops and also from Moss motors.
