MG MGA - 5 MGA wheels to give away!!!

Some years ago I converted my disc wheels to centre locking wires and stuffed them in the loft. We are now moving home and I have been told by the Organ Grinder to get rid of them as they are no use to me. I've tried to sell them twice on eBay unsuccessfully and also tried an MG classified ad. I can't believe they are no use to someone out there. They are in good condition and I haven't got the heart to throw them away at the local recycling centre. If anyone is prepared to come and pick them up from me I am happy to give them away for nothing.

I live near Tring in Hertfordshire. Contact me on 07962 492611 if you want them. I am moving house in a couple of weeks and need to get shot of them before then.

4 of them are original wheels off an MGA and the other is off an MG Magnette (fine if used as a spare).

The pics are on eBay (paste the link below into your browser)

I did get one bid but the buyer retracted it!

Thanks

Sorry that you can't sell them. I hope you can at least give them away. Good luck.

Hello Jason. Nothing to do with your wheels but how do you insert a skype number into your text?

Thanks

Jason,
I drive my MGA on steel wheels.Easier to clean and I think that the car drives a bit more stable.
But nevertheless there must be someone out there who is looking for steel MGA wheels.
My heart breaks when I hear that someone has to throw away good MGA parts.
So come on guys over there in the UK adopt those wheels and safe them.
Good luck,

Herman,
H. Jorens

Jason, I will be interested in the wheels. But I'm in Malta and I would think they will cost me a fortune to get them shipped here. If I can think of something I might come back to you. In the meantime maybe you can enquire about the cost of shipping and let me know. Thanks.

Hey Frank,

Fedex are quoting £190 to ship them to Malta. It might be cheaper for you and 4 friends to get a budget flight and take them on as hand luggage (they weigh 7kg each)!

Still interested?

Jason,

I would pay the shipping in a heartbeat if you were on my side of the pond. You have four 1600 wheels (hard to find) and one 1500.

Over time (ok, maybe a long time) the steel wheels will become more valuable since no one is making replacements. Just look at the price the twin cam wheels fetch. Admittedly the twin cam wheels are rarer but going forward unless you want to switch to wires, good solid steel wheels will become harder to find.

The steel wheels, particularly the 1500 type, may not last forever. The condition of 1600 wheel in the attached picture was likely the result of loose lug nuts and a broken stud. I have three rims in my garage that have fatal cracks. I hope you can find a home for the wheels other than the recycling yard.

If you are running steel wheels read Dominic’s thread a few weeks back on replacement wheel nuts. FRM's comments are particularly illuminating.

Frank, £190 (USD$305) might be a pretty good deal. That is the same price per wheel that I have paid for 1600 wheels here in the States.

There are cheaper shippers than Fedex

Four MGA 1600 type wheel, yes. That 5th wheel is not an MGA 1500 wheel, it is from a Magnette. Notice the smooth pattern inside the hub cap area, and the irregularly spaced vent holes.

On the west side of the big pond, MGA wheels go for about $40-70 (can't find $25 wheels any more). I suspect they will be more valuable on the east side. As said, please don't throw them out.

I've looked into it and can ship them to the US for about £125 so will relist them on ebay.com, rather than ebay.co.uk, where there is a bigger market.

Along these same lines, I happen to have approximately 20 steel wheels, both 1500 and 1600. Don't ask how I got this many. The last ones I sold for I believe $20 each plus $40 shipping to Washington state. So if anyone needs steel wheels let me know before I am forced into the same solution of scrap or possibly worse...ebay! Have a good day!
