MG MGA - Abingdon Classics MGA Restoration Series

As a charter subscriber, I have every issue of Abingdon Classics, published in the early '80s. Their first series was a 30-part step-by-step restoration of the MGA. In total, it probably runs about 100 pages and includes pictures, drawings, and diagrams.

Any interest on this site in a scanned copy of that entire series? If so, what would be a reasonable price? It will take me several hours to scan the entire series.

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Dan,
I would be very interested if you were putting it on cd/dvd.

Hi Dan

How about some philanthropy and uploading it to append the MGAGuru resource.

Hi
Whilst I would be prepared to pay for it, I agree with Matthew that it would seem to go against the ethos of the MGA community. Clearly scanning would take up a good deal of your time, but I cannot even guess how much time Barney must have put in, for all of our benefit.
And then there are other frequent contributors to this forum that give up their time generously to post replies, photos, etc to novices like me.
So as I say, I would be happy to pay, but I think it would be unfair to expect the "inner circle" to do so.

Does not copyright come into play here? It's one thing copying classic data (with due courtesy to the owner/originator) for the non commercial benefit of enthusiasts; but when it goes commercial that is another matter.

Some years ago I had some photos on my MGA website of the disc brake conversion I did for my 1500 MGA. Moss subsequently used my photos without my permission to promote their conversion kit. When I raised my eyebrows I had their lawyers grovelling within minutes (all resolved totally amicably - and no I did not want any money. It just would have been nice to have been asked in the first place. I would have been quite chuffed). You need to be so careful.

As an aside, I spend about 7 hours a week, 52 weeks a year on the British car jack database. A lot of the time is spent contacting vendors for permission to use their photos. Currently 420 jacks and 200+ classic cars paired up. it's all free. What price a hobby?

Fellas,

I'm a B owner. So while your community might be highly altruistic, I'm not familiar with any of its members. I was just trying to make a resource available if it represented value. Sorry to offend.

Hi Dan, sounds like a useful resource but your estimate of "several hundred hours" to scan approx. 100 pages seems a tad excessive to me. Why so long? Perhaps I'm missing something?

I'm sure he was referring to possibly scanning the entire series of Abingdon Classics publications. I would of course be interested in posting the MGA article(s) on www.MGAguru.com

Hi Dan

You certainly haven’t offended anyone. I do hope that ‘A’ crowd hasn’t been too fractious with you.

Could I suggest you post an example page of the article.

This will hopefully generate (even more) interest and a solution to scanning (the 100 pages)and distribution of same, will no doubt present itself.

Again, many thanks, Matthew.

You didn't miss anything, in fact you added something! My post said "several hours," not "several hundred hours."

I don't mind getting beat up, but not for the wrong reason!

Hi Dan, sorry for misreading your post. My mistake. I think I may need to go and get my eyes checked!

FYI, here's a scan of page 1 of Part 1 of the 30 part series.

Dan,
The quality looks good.

Looks an interesting series. I am sure Barney would give you appropriate recognition on the prestigious MGAGURU website if you scanned the series for the mga community.
