MG MGA - anti sway bar

Hey all, since I am this far I would like to put an "original" style front sway bar on the "A". To my dismay, those available seem to be the type which mount under the frame. Does anyone know of a supplier for the top mount type? Thanks, Tom

They are available.

Moss Motors has the complete original style kit:

See item no. 108

Also Victoria British has the piece parts:
http://www.victoriabritish.com/icatalog/mga/t.aspx?Page=74
Here you need to order all of the individual parts (no complete kit for original style).

Also keep in mind that original sway bar for MGA was 5/8" diameter, which is okay for original type bias ply tires, back in the day. But if you like to drive briskly, then you need modern radial tires which have much better grip. For that you should have a 3/4" sway bar, which is non-original in any case. If you want to compete with race tires, then a 7/8" sway bar would be appropriate, but that can make the car a little "twitchy" on street tires.

Tom,
Anti swaybars are easy to get and install. 1st the MGA 1600 and MkII already have the cutouts for the front extension where a sway bar would go. So I guess the first thing is what model you have. I put a sway bar on my MKII. Since it already had the cutouts on top of the front frame extension I was Ok there. Next I used the stock sway bar from an old MGB, saved buying one. The brackets to attach the sway bar to the frame along with the rubber bushings I got from Eclectic Motorworks in Holland, MI. They have a web site. Next the front lower wishbone arms need to be changed for the sway arm to attach. Also you need shortened sway bar arms than used on the MGB. The MGA's are shorter. I believe I got these from Moss. Moss also has a kit for that includes the sway bar. I don't know how complete it is. Hope that helps

Tom I got my original type front sway bar from Scarborough Faire and it fit great. I have a 1600 Coupe and during the restoration was able to modify the front frame extension by cutting a section out and welding in steel plates. It wasn't that hard to do just needed time and patience. I took a series of photos during the work so if you want me I'll send them to you directly.

Hey all, thanks for the replies. After several "dead ends" I have ordered the parts from Victoria British. Scarborough Faire is out of stock for the time being. The adventure continues.... Regards, Tom
