MG MGA - Arm rest
Is there a wood board, about 3/8" thick, beneath the foam of the arm rest? If yes, what is the purpose, to give support? Thanks! George

Hi George. My original leather/foam inner was sewn to the carpet over the tunnel. The foam was inserted through a slot in the carpet which was then sewn up. No board. Brian

I have used wood as the base for armrests too, when the carpets are replaced and come without a new armrest because the old one is still fine. I staple the armrest to the wood, then apply velcro to the underside, which then holds it to the carpet. I have also just glued the armrest to the carpet in my own car - my armrest is still an original and looks just fine with the new seat covers I fitted a few years ago.

Brian (above) has that correct. I have restored 5 MGA's and found each set up like that. Barry.

George, As others have said, the arm rest was originally sewn to the carpet with a slit to allow the foam to be inserted. Here’s a couple of pictures of my original arm rest and the carpet it was sewn to. Jim

Thanks all, so no board! George
