MG MGA - armrest in MGA coupe

Hi,

I'm working to get the the leather of the seats. However, the leather of the armrest was in such a bad shape, that I can not figure out how it is supposed to be. Can someone explain to me, perhaps with some examples or pictures, how the armrest is constructed and how it is attached to the carpet.

Thanks!!

Paul, Have a look in the archives under 'arm rest' and you'll find enough information to keep you occupied for hours! .................Mike

The original armreast was sewn to the carpet. I have stapled the new one to the plywood supplied and used loose.

A comment but may be superfluous! When I was having my 1600 coupe re-trimmed I gave the trimmer an old roadster armrest as the original was missing. He contacted me because he did not think that it should have a pleat down the centre as this did not match the styling of the coupe seats! Coupe armrests, at least on the 1600, are plain.
Barry Bahnisch

That is correct. Coupe armrest does not have the pleat in the center.

Paul when I restored my Coupe the armrest was separate from the carpet so I made up some piping and stapled that beween the plywood and the carpet for a more complete look. Not per the original but I think its a neat installation.

Paul here's a photo of the armrest with the piping.
