MG MGA - Awkward Loads On An MGA

Where a C Class Merc and an Audi TT Coupe failed, my MGA came up trumps with collecting my wife's orthopaedic arm chair from the supplier. These old cars still have uses other than for pleasure!

She has just had a hip replacement so this is about the only outing the car is going to get in the next few months.

The surgeon turned down my offer of a 'Hardy Spicer' prop shaft joint and insisted on fitting his own version.

Steve - My wife and I have always maintained that our TD is the original SUV, It looks like you have just continued the tradition. Long live MGs! Cheers - Dave

My dad claimed to have belted a deer carcass into the passenger seat once.

Totally agree Dave. Love the deer carcass story. Must be plenty more out there! Higher the better!

Many moons ago I delivered 4 bonnet panels-2 front wings-2 rear and a gas tank from an MG-TD some 85 miles to Sarasota Florida with my 1954 MG-TF. Had lots of fun crossing Skyway Bridge with windy condition.

So-fa, so good. Two rattan sofas which would not go inside estate cars strapped to the roof of a Series 2 Land Rover. Just 6 miles to travel, so no marathon. Only excuse for showing it is that the Land Rover is a '59, like my MGA. Shane

Kayak.
I made a stand to sit on the rear shelf. It worked!
I got some classic double-takes.

Wish I had pictures of my brother towing his Citabria fuselage across town, on the gear, using his Jeep. He folded the soft top down, put something behind the rear seat to support the tail wheel, which he strapped to the roll bars on each side to keep it from moving. It worked a lot better than I expected it to.

Steve,

I will equal your arm-chair and raise you another one.

Photo taken in the early 70's when I moved two arm chairs from North London to Bedfordshire.

Good one. I am still tickled by the deer in the passenger seat.

Glad to hear the op has gone fine.

I think my best is my mountain bike as picture. It is as if MGA rack is custom made for the job. Wheels, saddle and one pedal in passenger side.

Rather the other way around but when I got a roadster bodyshell in 2 halves to covert my roadster I brought complete rear body of the 'A' home on the roof of my wife's Maxi. She wasn't too happy but no scratches to the Maxi. By the way I bought the 2 halves of the same roadster shell from different people but that is another story

I can't challenge you for orthopedic armchairs as NHS delivered when my wife had the op.

Best wishes to your wife. Mine is very happy she had it done in 2011.
