MG MGA - Boot seal

What is a good adhesive for the boot seal rubber? My paint is catalyzed acrylic enamel.
Art Pearse

Cambodian Tire has "Permatex" Weatherstrip adhesive. This works well and quick to apply.
Do you have the best boot seal from McGregor in Toronto? The MOSS one is too hard and does not seal.
Peter.
P. Tilbury

Thank Peter. It's cr*ppy Tire round these parts! I bought from Moss, but it is the McGregor type, hollow section. Is it in the auto section or houswares?
Art Pearse

Auto section, but you may have to ask for it, if you can find someone to ask, of course!
Peter.
P. Tilbury

2x on the Permatex weatherstrip adhesive. If I recall correctly, I bought mine at NAPA. It should be available at most auto parts stores.
Larry Wheeler

Peter, Larry, is it the Permatex 80638 "SuperWeatherstrip Adhesive" ?
C.Tire can't find it here.
Art Pearse

Art,
Mine package shows UPC 80539 and No. 80BR. The sku on the back is 0 68161 80539 1. CT should be able to identify from the sku.
Howevr, if this is not available, any good contact adhesive will work.
Peter.

I got some 3M 80010 "Super Weatherstrip Adhesive" Which was also cheaper for its size.
Art Pearse

I wouldn't worry too much about the brand. Most of the time the seal is under compression, so all you need is something sticky enough so the seal doesn't pop out when you open the trunk.

Grab whatever weatherstrip adhesive your local auto parts store recommends and call it good.
Larry Wheeler

I found that it can be a water trap, therefore it just rests in place without adhesive.

Every few months I remove the rubber, clean and dry the channel and put the rubber back.
J Bray

Totally agree with JB. After washing the car(or after heavy rain ) the seal is soaking wet. Remove it , dry it and replace otherwise it traps water and then the dreaded rust has a chance to develop. Same with the carpets in the boot. No adhesive at all.
David
D C Grahame

OK, I'll see if it stays put without!
Art Pearse

Art,

it stays in place for 95% of the time, make sure the join is at the top between the hinges and on the odd occasion it does lift out just put it back.
