MG MGA - Boot (trunk) lid skin

Can someone tell me if it is possible to reskin the trunk lid, and if so the best place to find a new skin. Mine has split/cracked where it folds around the frame (about 40% of the perimeter) due to rust and corrosion. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

You need to find a body shop that specializes in restoration and can make panels. You may find it much cheaper to find a good used trunk lid.

Don, the above advice is right on. New skins are not shown from Moss or VB and VB shows the complete assembly but it's $1200. There should be plenty of good used pieces around for a reasonable price. Beware that if you have a 1600 or MKII there are extra holes for the script that are not in the 1500 skins, but a good welder can TIG these up if needed. As far as that goes even holes for a luggage rack can be repaired. You might take some photos and contact Carl Heideman at Eclectic Motor Works and get an estimate on the repair or replacement of the skin. Probably the best source that I can think of in the US for such work. http://www.eclecticmotorworks.com/
If you take a look through some of the MGA photos you will see where they repaired holes in a deck lid and even damage to the steel under frame. They could probably repair the edge cracks in your lid instead of replacing it.

I know someone who has a couple of used boot (trunk) lids he could sell you.
Email me directly for his contact info.

Don, It is cheaper to find a good TIG welder and have it repaired. I have done a few over the years. No trouble as long as the material is CLEAN.
