MG MGA - brake drum color

I am rebuilding the brade system and would like to repaint the brake drums. The wire wheels are silver. The PO painted the drums black.

Correct colour

Yes Terry, the correct copour, but mine look much nicer in silver. I'm sure the factory bought black paint cheaper than silver ! Sean

It is normal practice to have items coloured black where they are required to give off heat as quickly as possible. The difference may be slight but every bit helps.

It seems that (at least some of) the Australian built cars were assembled with silver drums. Personally, I think that black looks better, because then you don't really see them!
Neil McGurk

Used barbecue black paint out of a spray can for mine, after sand blasting them. That was more than ten years ago, and they still look great today through the wire wheels.
