MG MGA - Call It MGA

I have just received a round robin email from the MGA MGCC Register telling us that excellent condition first editions of the 'Call It MGA' book, published to celebrate 50 years of the MGA, are now fetching up to £200 on Ebay.

Just wrapped mine in cotton wool!

Apparently one of the Register members has one for sale at £125 + p&p. If no one is interested he will put it on Ebay. I can give contact details if anyone is interested.

Someone might have asked for £200 for the book on eBay but I somewhat doubt they got it. There is only one copy listed as Sold and that went for £41 which I still think is quite a lot especially as a new edition is about to come out.

Never mind cotton wool Steve - I think I might put mine on ebay too - and then buy the new edition for £25

Steve, I only became aware of this book "Call it MGA" recently and was keen to procure a copy. Piers Hubbard told me that copies rarely come up for sale but he heard that a copy was for sale at Goodwood Revival, purportedly ex-Gerry Marshall, and it sold for 135GBP. I searched the internet and found Hortons Books had one copy, brand new, signed 67th example, so I bought it, paid close to 180GBP! Happy to have paid what may be my most expensive book purchase. Maybe like MGAs themselves they will increase over time. Here is the cheque for the purchase of my MGA in 1975, it should be worth more now. Btw. thanks for previous advice, I delivered the MGA to Bob West this month for major work in anticipation of the LE-JoG in Sept. Regards,
Doug

Hi Doug

That cheque reminds me that I paid £465 in Nov 1975 for my MGA. Quite a variation in prices then for our cars. And how come you have the cheque now? Did the bank send your cleared cheques back with the statement. I can't remember that. Bob West did the major work on mine a few years ago.

As I have no 30 of the signed first editions, and also get named in the book, my copy must be worth a fortune. if anyone wants to pay me a fortune for it I am willing to sell! :-)

Yes John, the banks used to send customers' cheques back after clearing. I kept the cheques for my MGA and also for my 1952 M.G. TD. see attached..
I would be very interested to hear what work Bob West did for you, and when that was.. any pics. please?
Dominic, just hold onto your no. 30 copy, in 25 years you could sell! Cheers,
Doug

I have first editions of the entire Churchill ww2 books. They are worth less than one copy of the first edition of Call It MGA.

No logic.

Hey Dominic,

You know what they say - "If you want to make a small fortune, start with a large one!"

Peter;

I didn't know you worked in aviation, too... 8^) The alternate saying is, "I know there is money to be made in this business, because *I* put it there."
