MG MGA - Color of the inner fender guards?

My inner fender (wing) guards, are painted car color, but
get damaged by stones, etc....I think it would be more practical to use a protective coating on them, but don't want to do anything that would hurt the value....
Do they have to be car color, or would black be appropriate? My car is not concourse, but is show worthy.
Thanks

Inner guards should be body colour...That takes more maintenance but is worth it!!..To use black under there is cheating.....

Mine have not had a chip in 16 years of driving, probably due to using 2-pack. What paint do you have? If cellulose perhaps consider repainting those relatively hidden parts in a harder body colour paint such as 2-pack.

You can get paintable soft anti-chip paint.

I occasionally have to drive over gravel roads, and that is what chips the paint....My paint is 2 part Acrylic enamel.

I have used "chip guard", but it leaves a sand-paper like finish on the paint....

Since "Alfred" is now for sale, I think I will leave him as he is....

One thing that has become available, is a new product from Eastwood, called "Elastiwrap", that comes in black, or clear.(I think there are other colors too)...It is a spray-on rubber-like compound that can easily be peeled off....I have tried the black, and other than no way to tape it off, it is great stuff.
If I were keeping the car, I think I would repaint the guards, then spray with the clear version of the product.
Kind of lets me "slip between the horns" of the dilemma.

Thanks for the input.

Use stone chip paint in an aerosol. Buy a good brand such as "WURTH". It is fairly smooth and very strong stuff. You can then paint over it with body colour 2K paint. I had no chips in six years, and believe you me, there is stone gravel everywhere on our roads.
