MG MGA - Dash Knob Letters
Nearing the end, but not at Barney's pace. I want to keep my original dash knobs; they are dull and the white lettering is gone. Any clever polishing and letter paint experience? Thanks, Bob Prentice |

Bob - The knobs can be polished up with a cloth polishing wheel on you bench grinder and some white (stainless) compound - they polish up real nice. After polishing the knob, clean the groves of the lettering out, removing any traces of dirt and polishing compound, then take some thinned white model paint and with a very fine paint brush, run the paint into the groves. Let the paint dry for a bit (until any paint on the surface of the knob is tacky), wrap a single layer of cloth around your finger, dampen (don't soak) it with paint thinner and wipe off any paint that got on the surface of the knob. You may have to do a couple of applications of the paint to get good coverage, but when done, the know will look showroom new. Cheers - Dave |

What I did was apply white paint to the top of the knobs and let dry. i then got a 600 grit sand paper and sanded the knobs until just the paint reccessed in the groves of the letters remained. I then lightly coated with a wax. the letters look great and the black knobs have a slightly dull black appearance leaving a wonderful pitina finish. |

I bought a fine tipped paint pen at an art supply store and followed David's process. The paint pen is easier to use than a brush because the tip follows the indentation of the letters. Good Luck, Randy |

Some good tips - the letters on mine are red to match the interior - yet I know they are supposed to be white - any one know if this was an original option or has a PO done it ? ( sorry to hijack your thread Bob). cheers Cam |

Thank you all, Cam, I recently read(?site, maybe Barney) that red interiors may have come with red lettering. Bob P. |
