MG MGA - Door Seals

I've been in the archive and it appears that Todd Clarke's seals are the go to. (tho Scarborough Faire gets a mention)

Todd's website say you should have a minimum of 1/2" between the door and the flange when closed, but then it seems to suggest that the gap is 1/2" WITHOUT the panel on.

Any experience?

At its tightest point my gap is 1/4" WITH the panel on.

Thanks
Tysen McCarthy

Tysen,
You may get away with a 1/4" gap without panels but it does depend on the total thickness of the panel and vinyl trim.

I have used Todd's seals and they are excellent.

Tysen,

I have used Todd's seals and they are excellent. By virtue of their design, and how they lay, they close the gap between a different part of the door, rather than the immediate gap between door and the pillars and sill metalwork; hard to explain. If I get the chance I'll place a photo, as fitted, to illustrate.

I found that the worst thing to affect door closure was oversized door buffers being sold.

Tysen, Some time ago I drew out the dimensions for the TC seal (see pic.).

The door is on the left side but not shown. If I remember correctly the door gap to the sill was 3/8". The rubber seal of course forms to the underside of the door and not the vertical inside face.

Allow 1/8" for the panel. On mine I used 2mm millboard and the vinyl covering was a bit less than 1mm.

I remember being concerned at the time because my gap was a bit tight but all was OK in the end. The fluff compresses nicely! .................Mike
