MG MGA - Dzus fasteners

Just got a new S/H battery cover, with the 2 Dzus fasteners. Is there supposed to be a retaining clip to keep the fastener on the cover, or are they just loose?
Art Pearse

The fasteners are not supposed to come out. I think that after they were inserted the holes in the panel were reduced in diameter by using an annular punch............................Mike

Art,
Some come with a thin washer that holds them in place, but I have never seen them.

The Dzus fasteners on my battery cover have an oval flange which has an 1/8th" hole on each side.

The flange is pop-reveted down to the cover using the holes.

You could easily change your fasteners for this type.

There is a nifty little tight fitting collar washer available that will press over the bottom end of the stud to secure it in the panel. These retainers can be plastic (snap in place) or aluminum (swaged in place like Mike said, with an annular punch).

Don't have any lock washers on my Dzus fasteners, but I have had to fit many a lock washer to Dzus fasteners on aircraft over the years.

Mine come out when I take the battery cover off. It's not really a problem.

OK, I'll let them be loose! Thanks everyone.
