MG MGA - Fabric covered sliding side curtains

I have a set of fabric covered side curtains, that need a little work. I downloaded the plan for the fabric from Barney's site, but having trouble printing them. I have replaced the lexan in one. What I need is the measurement of the rear supporting piece for the front panel, as it is missing with this set of SC's. The front lexan is 1/16" thick, but I do not know how much overlap their should be on the rear edge. I hope I have explained properly.
Can any one help with this?

You mean the metal edge piece at the rear of the front pane?
Art Pearse

I'm sure thats what you mean. It was missing on mine too.
You have to fab it by folding a strip of 28 g tin (I cut mine from some air duct) Fold it over some 16 g sheet so it fits tight on the Lexan.
You have to solder it in position to the frame which means cutting away the inside flange of the folded strip and aligning the slot with the plane of the Lexan.
To insert the pane you have to remove the runner for the rear glass. This gives space to flex the front pane so that it can be inserted at front and rear. You can only get about 1/8" overlap. Obviously the rear strip has to be in place first or the heat will melt the plastic. The front pane sits at the side of the runner. I made the front pane a tad long and trimmed it progressively on the table saw until it was able to slip in.
Good luck!!

Mine was fitted you sure they are solder mine had pop rivets to fit it to the frame.

I think we are talking about different bits.
The screen supports that attach to the door are rivetted to the screen frame.
The trim strip which retains the front pane was welded originally. It's easier to solder a replacement in place b/c its very thin metal.
I suppose you could use a small pop rivet instead.

Thanks Art. What I still need to know is how wide that strip is in its finished form. I have been able to cut new Plexiglas, and have installed it properly (much easier than I thought), just don't have the stiffener strip.

CR, mine is 3/8" wide finished, so take a 7/8 strip and form it.
Art Pearse

Thanks... that's what I needed.
