MG MGA - Fender welting
I'm more familiar with TDs, but I am on an MGA safari to bag one of my own and am a bit puzzled re: fender welts. What's the straight poop? Painted? Color coded with no paint? Same color regardless of the color of the paint? Thanks. ...........

Tou mean the fender piping, between body and fenders? It should not be painted. If it is, then the paint job was a bodge. Colour is usually a contrast to the paint.

Colour of the fender welting/piping is a silver grey. Regardless of the colour of the car. Should not be painted. should not be stainless steel. It is plastic moulded with a top edge that is formed more like a "T" with a crowned upper surface. It is not round like the T-Series cars. ...CR

Thanks. That's what I needed.

Just a note. When they get older and dirty a "Mr Clean Magic Eraser" and a little water clean them up a treat.

When I first had my A in late 69 and early 70s, i.e. when MGAs were mainly 10 to 15 year old bangers, the weld was almost always over-sprayed in body colour. I remember thinking it was a real treat the first time I saw car with it correct in unpainted silver grey. Paul

I once saw an E-Type with paint covering the hood welts. Seriously, but this was back in the 70's when they were mere mortals. .....
