MG MGA - floppy, noisy hood

Hey all, when we drove to Ottawa we had to go through a heavy rain storm. We finally figured a piece of duct tape kept the water from coming in over the windscreen but I was not able to stop the hood , stay fast cloth, from beating against the frame and making very loud noises. Any solutions to this issue other than driving 20 MPH? Thanks, Tom
Thomas McNamara

Stretch it up a little tighter? Mine vibrates and makes a fairly high frequency crackling noise at high speed, but it does not flap against the frame. It does lift up and leave a gap large enough to insert my fingers just above the front steel tube bow in the center.

Do you have a centre latch on your hood - this will help a little. Have you tried wedging a towel or a lump of firm foam in the gap.

Try covering the frame with insulation tubing as used on air conditioners copper piping.

I ordered my hood with a tube of material to attach it to the bow. The tube is closed by velcro along the length of the bow. No noise at all

My Moss hood has the front pocket but they sewed it in the wrong location and besides it was too small to get the bow thru. But hood is tight and no flopping

The factory must have experienced "flapping" as they glued felt to the upper surfaces of the hood bows (at least on my car). I have glued felt (on the upper surfaces) to mine which seems to reduce/cancel out the noise!

My top flops around as well, but only if the side screens are open or removed. Once the side screens are installed or closed, the air leakage into the cabin causes an increase in air pressure, and with nowhere to go, it causes the top to swell up like a balloon and no flopping. I've seen other owners use the self adhesive foam pipe insulation (Home Deport/Lowes)as a cure. I's inexpensive and can be replaced as needed.

Flopping and noise survivable bot drips from corner of windscreen which always seem worst on (femail) passenger side are a problem .
I have tried gluing bits of rubber on the corners but not terribly effective.
